The perfect start to your speech
First impressions count – even in a speech. You will win over your audience in the first few seconds... or lose them. A strong opening immediately captivates your listeners, grabs their attention and arouses their curiosity, setting the right tone for your speech.
In our short workshop, you will learn:
- Why the beginning of a speech is so crucial
- What methods there are to immediately grab your audience's attention (e.g. with a question, a story, a surprising fact or humour)
- How to structure your introduction so that it fits the message of your speech
- And above all: You will try it out for yourself and receive feedback.
👉 This workshop is practical: You will not only learn what a good start looks like – you will practise it directly and go home with a noticeable difference in the impact of your speech.
Make the first sentence of your speech your strongest!

Stefan Gruss – ‘Toastmaster of the Year 2024/25’ award, District 95
An award that is thoroughly deserved
It was with great pleasure that Stefan Gruss was named Toastmaster of the Year 2024/25 at the District 95 Conference in Regensburg, Germany, in May 2025 – an honour that could hardly have been more deserved. Stefan embodies everything that Toastmasters stands for: commitment, leadership, support and passion.
The man behind the idea – Regensburg 2025
This year's District 95 Conference in Regensburg was not only a highlight for participants from all over Europe, but also a project close to Stefan Gruss's heart. He had the idea of bringing the conference to Regensburg and took on the role of Conference Chair from the very beginning. With strategic vision and a great deal of tact, he coordinated the organisational team and ensured that the vision became reality – including a gala evening, competitions, keynotes and an unforgettable atmosphere.
Mentor, doer and enabler
What many people don't see is Stefan's role behind the scenes: as a mentor for district leaders, he worked tirelessly, providing guidance, strengthening new club officers and building bridges between clubs and the district team.
Whether a programme item had to be changed at short notice, a trainer dropped out or a club needed help with organisation – Stefan stepped in without hesitation. His willingness to take on responsibility has had a lasting impact on the district.
Leadership in action – with heart and mind
Stefan's commitment is based on a genuine passion for personal development. In his home clubs – such as the Munich Prostmasters, Munich English Advanced Toastmasters Club and Toastmasters Munich – he is a valued mentor, feedback provider and source of ideas.
His masterclasses and workshops, especially on feedback culture, have inspired many members to take their speeches and leadership skills to the next level.
Stefan Gruss is Toastmaster of the Year 2024/25 – and rightly so.
He is the initiator, visionary, supporter and heart of the Toastmasters community in District 95.
Everyone is delighted for him, because this award honours not only his achievements, but also the spirit with which he acts.
Congratulations, Stefan – and thank you for everything you do for our community!
