After about a decade in skincare consulting, formulation, and training, Carol Maclean M’27 built Authentic Radiance into a growing skincare business. As the company evolved, she realized that sustaining its growth would require her to think more strategically about its future.

Now a year into the Ashesi MBA, Maclean is applying lessons from the classroom to her entrepreneurial journey. Beyond the coursework, she has gained new perspectives from classmates across different industries, building a network that challenges her thinking and supports her growth as a business leader.

Sarah Cooperman, a student from Swarthmore College, came to Ashesi for a semester-long exchange. , she joined student clubs, participated in research projects, and explored new interests that helped her build friendships and immerse herself in Ghanaian culture. Through these experiences, Sarah found a welcoming community and formed lifelong connections that made her semester in Ghana unforgettable.

A team of Ashesi students comprising Innocent Chikwanda M’27, Princess Tracy Agyemfra-Acheampong ’27, Nicole Sibanda ’26, and Dillys Annan M’27 applied systems thinking to examine how nutrition awareness, household decisions, economic pressures, and food systems influence children’s access to adequate nutrition.

Their research earned third place at the Map the System competition by the University of Oxford. By engaging with caregivers, schools, and existing research, the team explored the lived experiences behind childhood food poverty and highlighted how collaboration, empathy, and systems thinking can help create more informed solutions to complex challenges.

While , Eleazar Archer M’24 co-founded MESADA PCL, an agritech venture developing a smart planter designed to help farmers use fewer inputs while improving yields.

With support from the Ashesi Design Lab and the Ashesi Venture Incubator, the team built, tested, and refined their prototype. The smart planter is now being upgraded from a three-row to a six-row system to improve speed and planting efficiency.

Now a faculty member with Ashesi’s Engineering Department, Archer describes the transition as both challenging and rewarding. “I didn’t think I would love it that much, having always identified myself as a hands-on person,” he said. “But then it’s very different: I’ve had to learn more, know way more.”

Digital spaces are becoming central to how students learn, connect, and participate in university life. But when these spaces are not designed with accessibility in mind, they can create barriers for students with disabilities.

In this op-ed, the Ashesi Accessibility Team explores how digital accessibility gaps in higher education can limit participation, affect learning experiences, and prevent students from fully engaging with the opportunities universities provide. They highlight practical steps institutions can take to build digital environments that are inclusive by design.

Before arriving in Ghana, Reeve Helvoigt had spent years working with data, but she had never collected it herself. The Ashesi Summer Research Consulting Internship Program gave her the opportunity to step beyond existing datasets and into communities to listen, learn, and gather insights firsthand.

Working alongside Ashesi students and peers from the College of Wooster, Reeve and her team explored challenges in education, tourism, and agriculture across the Akuapem South Municipality. Their research led to recommendations focused on improving learning outcomes, strengthening tourism visibility, and supporting farmers.
