Last week five UCL startups travelled to Switzerland to take part in the UK-Swiss Entrepreneurship Exchange Programme 2025, an initiative designed to help early-stage ventures expand internationally and attract investment. This trip came after five EPFL startups visited UCL in September.
The programme is a partnership between UCL and EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, supported by Innovaud, the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom, and the British Embassy in Bern.
It aims to accelerate high-potential businesses by providing access to new markets, curated introductions, and networking opportunities.
The initiative builds on the Memorandum of Understanding between the UK and Switzerland on science and innovation cooperation, reinforcing both countries’ commitment to supporting research-driven entrepreneurship.
Professor Geraint Rees, UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement) said: “The second year of this thriving exchange programme once again underlines UCL’s commitment to both entrepreneurship and collaboration. We’re keen to explore and build on our links with European partners and this programme offers our two universities, and the startups within them, new ways to tap into investment, new relationships and interesting opportunities overseas. Programmes like this are a fantastic way for us to pool resources and build on our shared expertise and values, to accelerate global impact.”

Dr. Salinna Abdullah (UCL Electronic and Electrical Engineering), Co-founder, UCL startup Motics said: “The exchange has been hugely valuable for Motics. Although it is sector-agnostic, the organisers took great care to tailor our itinerary to the healthtech ecosystem, which is the space we operate in. This gave us highly targeted exposure and warm introductions to exactly the right stakeholders and partners. Every meeting felt relevant and actionable. I feel confident that if we want to test or enter the Swiss market, we know exactly where to start and who to reach out to. We are extremely grateful to the organisers and partners for such a thoughtfully-designed and impactful programme.”
