A semester unlike any other is about to kick off, with teachers around the world moving their classes online. To help teachers quickly prepare for live online classes, Promise Opens Doors — a long-standing pioneer in online English education — has created a 10-hour professional development course in online teaching technology, costing $49 (USD). With strategically designed hands-on assignments and professional coaching from experienced online teachers, this course quickly prepares participants to teach more effectively over online meeting platforms such as Zoom. Promise Open’s Door’s Online Teaching Technology Course is highly interactive and includes several hands-on assignments with feedback from experienced online English teachers. It guides participants through six lessons, including training on:
-optimizing internet access,
-selecting and using appropriate hardware for online teaching,
-organizing teaching materials in cloud storage,
-increasing student engagement with online whiteboards,
-developing fluency with all relevant features of online meeting platforms, and
-troubleshooting common technical issues such as
---latency,
---audio/video connection issues,
---software issues, and
---computer performance issues.
Each lesson is followed by resources for further practice, such as sites for monitoring one’s internet speed, guidelines for honoring copyright in lesson planning, and procedures for using interactive game and quiz sites for practice and assessment.
Following a few demonstrations, the final course assignment calls for participants to perform and record a short practice meeting in Zoom, after which they receive feedback on their use of Zoom and other online teaching technology.
