ISIA Urbino / Werkplaats Typografie Summer School

Scuola Estiva / Summer School In 2015 we will organize the next edition. This is where ISIA Urbino is located. It hosts the University of Urbino founded in 1506.

In 2009 two schools with a course in Graphic Design, Werkplaats Typografie (ArtEZ), Arnhem, The Netherlands and ISIA Urbino, Italy, joined together to set up an international Summer School. Due to its success and the many positive responses from the students who took part in it, we have continued to organize it since then. We would like to draw your attention to it, and call for your application a

nd the application of your friends. The Summer School takes place in a former convent in the heart of the beautiful Renaissance town of Urbino in Italy. It’s one of the best universities for Graphic Design in Italy, solely devoted to the design practice. It has all the (technical) facilities you might expect from a good school, and as a participant of the Summer School you are allowed to use these facilities for free during the course. Urbino is a walled city and a World Heritage Site in a hilly area in the province Marche. It’s main attraction is the Palazzo Ducale, which started to be built in the second half of the 15th century. It houses the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche, one of the most important collections of Renaissance paintings in the world (Raffaello, Piero della Fracesca, Paolo Uccello). Since it’s a Summer School (and not a real school, with credit points, a diploma, etc.), we want you to have a good time. First of all, you can never fail. Secondly, you will always learn and gain many valuable things from it. If your work during the Summer School is not your best work ever, than the best is definitely what you learned from it. How you developed an idea and formalized it in such a short time. You will get good and individual feedback on your work. You will meet new fellow makers, who can have a background in other fields. You will share this once in a lifetime experience with them. You connect yourself to a new and international group of ‘students’, who will be future friends.

The first week of Summer School ended with the lecturer presenting their works. Today the students presented their ideas to the group, the day continued with group and individual talks in the afternoon.
