What a weekend! Not only did we create art but we also created connection.

Our very first booth at Bucktown Arts Fest was such a meaningful experience! Our Love Cloud invited so many to pause, think, and remember while story time had us all sharing about what it means to miss someone.

Can’t wait to share nkeee!

Come find us! The beautiful canvases collectively made by over 200 campers over the summer are featured in our booth at the Bucktown Arts Fest today and tomorrow! See the art, feel connected, and stay for conversation!

We turned the canvases into cards. But some for friends and family or get one as a keepsake for yourself! We also have books, journals, stickers, games, prizes, and frozen treats!

💙 All proceeds benefit grief education through art and story.

Back in high school… doing training. Full circle moment. I have a family member who attends this school now and they were one of the reasons I wrote Moving In Forever and now I’m here to help equip the educators in order to reach the youth.

The uncertainty,
the fear of saying the wrong thing,
the not knowing where to begin…

“Starting conversations with kids and families about grief can be hard. Here, I learned how.”

With the right tools and support,
those conversations don’t have to feel so heavy. 💛

“Sign me up…I could play Lego and it could be something constructive and useful?!” 🧱

Sometimes the most meaningful work begins with something that sounds almost too simple to be real.

On our latest Side Door Conversation, grief educator Jessica Porte shares how she discovered LEGO Serious Play during her grad program, a methodology developed in Billund, the home of LEGO, to unlock the creativity and expression that comes from building with bricks. Industries everywhere use it. But Jessica saw something more: a tool that could reach beyond the therapeutic room and into the way families and communities process change.

The power or art is hard to explain. But definitely something you can feel when you make it and experience it.

Witnessing children and families make art and then seeing how the community experiences it are both meaningful parts of our work.

Art can tell stories that words alone often cannot.

We cannot wait to share story with you as we wrap up Summer and welcome Fall with two events:

Save the dates for:

Bucktown Arts Fest
Aug28+29

Things We Carry Art Show & Fundraiser Oct 3rd

Both will feature art created by children and continued through us.

“I can’t believe I get paid to play Dungeons and Dragons...”

Not exactly what most people imagine when they think of grief support.

Grief specialist Tina Thomas shares how traditional grief groups aren’t always connecting with teenagers in relevant ways. Sitting in a circle and talking about feelings can be difficult for adults—let alone teens.

So, instead, she started with games.

Cooperative games. Storytelling games. Eventually, Dungeons & Dragons.

Because sometimes healing happens more naturally when people are creating, exploring, problem-solving, and connecting alongside one another.

Young people don’t always process grief through conversation alone.

Sometimes they process it through play.

Sometimes they process it through story.

Sometimes they process it by discovering that they don’t have to carry hard things by themselves.
