Elyse comes to ACDC and her dad found this in their front garden in Sleaford, recently. She kindly brought it to show us today. Could it be a Tudor Rose?? It's absolutely stunning! I found something very similar online...perhaps a 16th-18th century drawer mount?
I wonder if Sleaford Museum might know more? 😍

Today we found...a thimble in a field, frogs, fish, pottery, sheep bones, belemnite fossils (internal guard from inside of a Jurassic squid-like creature), devils toenails (an extinct marine bivalve fossil) and....ice-cream. Great job, ACDC! 😎

Today's 'classroom' was a flooded field and the River Slea. Next time we'll stop for an ice-cream at Cogglesford Mill. A great day was had by all ☀️

The next ACDC meet starts at 10am prompt, meeting in the school carpark. This month we're off to find treasures in a new location where the children will be able to do a spot of fossil hunting in the river to cool off. Bring sunhats and plenty to drink! ☀️

ACDC is back!
The children did so well, with a bit of help from Mr Madej and Miss Flemming ❤️ (thank you).
Our favourite finds were:
• A three pence from 1937, the same time Miss Mary Beavis was headteacher of the then Junior School.
• A half penny
• A vintage glass bottle (found on the site of a historic landfill).
•And Ben found....'gold' 😏
Happy birthday to Karol, who spent his day digging up mud with his friends.

Less detecting and more river larking today but what a day we had!! The children's pockets were full of fossils and their feet looked more Hobbit than human by the end. They were squealing with laughter and excitement from 10am. Wonderful day ❤️

Not a metal detecting find, BUT an exciting find nonetheless (if you're into that type of thing)...I went for a little paddle in the Slea yesterday and found some interesting bits that caught my eye. After a bit of research using the Natural History Museum, London 'Fossil Explorer' app and a chat with the helpful Jules Howard Zoology, it appears I found some belemnites - squid-like cephalopods that were particularly common 201-145 million years ago. It took 5 minutes to find them, it was free and a lot of fun with the kids! 🙌

Today we found....nothing! But, we did laugh (a lot), get lots of fresh air and sunshine, get lots of exercise, talk with our friends and went home dirty but very happy. This is what it's all about 🙌 I'm sure we'll find gold next time...

One huge benefit to detecting and another great reason to get our children involved in this brilliant hobby 🖤
HELP!
How many of you out there believe that Metal Detecting is good for your mental health? How many of you feel like you need the solitude and the peace, the socialisation, or the escapism and time in nature?
We're compiling a massive blog about mental health and how it can be supported by our great hobby, and we need your help to do it. We're going to be concentrating on the real thoughts and the real words of detectorists out in the fields and beaches (that's you).
We invite you to please share a short passage about what you feel is the benefit to your mental health and wellbeing from your time metal detecting. Any positive words you have would be great! We'll then compile the blog over the next few weeks and try to include as much of your input as possible. You'll be directly responsible for helping encourage new detectorists into the past time and demonstrating first-hand examples of how powerful it can be.
Please type in your comments below, or if you would like more anonymity, message us privately. We ask that those who are comfortable please state their first name and initial after their comment so that we can credit within the blog.
