Bio

James Thomas holds an MA in Applied Linguistics from Macquarie University (Sydney) and has over 35 years of experience in English language education. He worked at Masaryk University for 20 years, including eight as Head of English Language Teacher Training. Since 2001, he has collaborated extensively with NILE and the British Council, delivering teacher training courses to school teachers and university lecturers in ESP and EMI across Europe, Asia, and Central Asia. During four years in Uzbekistan, he trained teachers through NILE and served as Visiting Professor at Webster University in Tashkent.

AI and Pedagogy: Co-Evolving Teaching Practices for the Future
Education is being transformed by a dynamic trifecta between teachers, students, and artificial intelligence—creating entirely new educational chronotopes (time-space configurations) where learning unfolds. This three-way relationship isn't just adding a digital layer to traditional education; it's fundamentally reshaping when, where, and how learning happens.
This seminar explores how this teacher-student-AI trifecta operates across different chronotopic arrangements: from physical classrooms where AI assists real-time interaction, to virtual spaces where temporal boundaries blur, to hybrid environments where all three entities collaborate seamlessly. Building on embodied cognition theory, we'll examine how our physical presence and interactions remain crucial even as this trifecta reshapes educational time-spaces.

Participants will discover:
How the teacher-student-AI trifecta creates new chronotopic possibilities for learning
Ways each member of the trifecta influences and is influenced by the others
Strategies for leveraging this three-way relationship while preserving embodied learning experiences
Methods for designing educational experiences that optimize the synergy between human and AI participants across various time-space configuration

The speaker:

Dr. Jasmin (Bey) Cowin, is an Associate Professor in the TESOL and Bilingual Department at Touro University Graduate School of Education. Recognized for her academic excellence and leadership in digital education, she was awarded the 2024 Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) Faculty Fellowship for Excellence in Teaching. In addition, she is a member of the AI@Touro team.

Selected as a 2024 U.S. Department of State English Language Specialist, Dr. Cowin provided plenary keynotes, workshops, and resources on AI and digital technology pedagogy innovation globally. In her capacity as a Richard P. Nathan Public Policy Fellow (2024-2025) at the Rockefeller Institute of Government, she conducts transdisciplinary research on European Digital Initiatives and the European AI Act. Her policy briefs and recommendations assist higher education institutions in understanding the implications of these initiatives on international university programs, highlighting her ability to influence policy and navigate the research grant process effectively.

Prompt Engineering for Effective AI Output

This interactive session explores how prompt engineering can positively impact teaching. Participants will learn the essential elements of a generative AI prompt and discuss effective prompt engineering models. Guided by the presenter, participants will then apply one of these models to create a practical teaching asset, such as a tailored worksheet or lesson plan. Participants will leave with a toolkit for integrating prompt engineering into their teaching practices.

Alissa Nostas has been working as an English language instructor since 2000. She has taught in Ecuador, Kuwait, Egypt, and the United States. She holds a Master of Arts in TESOL from Colorado State University and a DELTA qualification from the University of Cambridge. She is currently working as a teacher educator for group and custom programs and as an instructional designer at Global Launch, Arizona State University’s training unit for international students and professionals. Her interests include online course development, technology integration, and student engagement.

Everyone Academy recently organized a series of webinars on Zoom, focusing on the importance of lesson planning for teaching success. The event, titled 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, featured six impactful sessions led by educators and experts from the United States and India, including two Everyone Academy ambassadors. Over 80 teachers from around the world participated, making the webinars a resounding success.

The speaker:

Dr. Theresa Cullen is a tenured full professor at Arkansas Tech University and the Director of the Center for Faculty LIFE (Learning Innovation and Faculty Engagement) since 2023. She has a master’s and PhD in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University. She was the co-author and a director of the Arkansas Tech University Online Teaching Academy from 2021-2024 which was a grant funded project from the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to assist K12 teachers to learn how to teach online. She is a former department head and has extensive experience in designing and implementing large scale technology projects.
