Table Topic and the Freeze!
BUY YOURSELF 3 SECONDS- Smile, breathe, and repeat the topic in your own words

START WITH ANYTHING NOT EVERYTHING - You do not need the best idea. You need a starting idea.
Instead of thinking, “What is the perfect answer?” think: “What is one example I can talk about?”

USE A PERSONAL STORY - Stories are easier than opinions because you already know what happened.
Example:
“This reminds me of my first time speaking in front of a group. I expected to be calm, but the reality was that my hands were shaking…”Once you begin a story, the speech usually flows.

HAVE A RESCUE PHRASE READY - When your mind goes blank, use one of these:
“Let me put that another way.” “The main point I want to make is…” “A simple example of this is…” “What I have learned from this is.These phrases help you restart without looking lost.

DO NOT APOLOGIZE - Avoid saying:
“Sorry, I don’t know what to say.”Instead, pause and continue. A pause feels much longer to you than it does to the audience.

PRACTICE WITH RANDOM PROMPTS - Pick any object near you and speak for 30 seconds about it. Then build up to 1 minute and 2 minutes.
For example: “A pen teaches us that small tools can create big ideas…”This trains your brain to connect quickly.

USE ONE OF THESE:
Past — Present — Future
“In the past… Today… In the future…”
Point — Example — Lesson
“I believe… For example… What this teaches us is…”
Expectation — Reality — Lesson
“I expected… The reality was… I learned…”
For Table Topics, the third one is especially useful.

The Power of Body Language
Your presence speaks before your words do.
Posture, gestures, and facial expressions can help you look more confident, credible, and connected with your audience.

Let your presence speak too.

We are in the busiest part of our Toastmasters year.
We had our Annual conference last week, which was really good fun, lots of speeches, lots of learning, lots of stories, lots of laughs.

Now, as we near the end of our toastmasters year, we are thinking about goals, objectives and our targets for 2026/27.

Oh My, there are so many things that we can do to try and help each other grow and maybe introduce new people into our club who would like to be able to confidently tell a story, understand about listening skills, understand about body language, understand about communicating the best of their ability.

Its an exciting year 2026 into 2027 with Charlottetown Toastmasters breakfast club Saturday mornings 9 o’clock till 10:30 AM.

Set the weekend off with a fabulous kickstart lots of stories laughs fun and camaraderie. We welcome new guests. We welcome new members and we hope you’re having a fantastic weekend.
