The UWI Model United Nations invites you to an engaging Open Floor Debate! This is your chance to dive into critical global discussions, exchange perspectives, and sharpen your debate skills.

Topics to be debated:
1️⃣ Decentralization of the United States in the Caribbean – What would this mean for regional governance and economic stability?
2️⃣ Global tariffs and the U.S. economy – Will protectionist policies help or hurt the global economic order in the long run?
3️⃣ Government roles in women’s empowerment – Should states take a more proactive stance in promoting gender equality?

Come prepared to share your thoughts, challenge ideas, and engage in thought-provoking discussions. Plus, there will be snacks!

Today, the United Nations observes World Pulses Day. Pulses are the edible seeds from legumes such as beans, lentils, and peas.

They are a sustainable food choice as 1/2 cup of pulses can provide 9 grams of protein and 7 or more grams of fibre and they have a lower carbon footprint compared to animal product.

They contribute to food security as they are cheap and easily stored in bulk. They also contribute to soil health as they are nitrogen fixing, they help the soil absorb nitrogen from the atmosphere.

They protect the soils natural microbes and contribute to agricultural diversification.

Through bi-weekly meetings, internal activities, and simulations, delegates gain practical experience in speaking on complex global issues, responding to points of inquiry, and defending positions under pressure.
