This why Manny he'd be great ⤵️
1st: He's one of the best RHH ever. That doesn't always equate to good coaching, however. The best can't always explain how they were the best, but below is why I think Manny can
2nd: He got in the cage with me who's never played close to his level. But he heard how I talked about hitting and he aligned with it. Open-minded and collaborative
3rd: He's always learning. He's talked with many other hitting coaches - by now he has heard it all. Probably the most hitting experience both as a hitter and as a learner in the world
4th: Mechanics vs feels. Some hitters are great because they just are. Some are great because they learn and work relentlessly. Manny is both. He knows mechanically how the swing works well. But more importantly at the MLB level, he knows how to develop feels that are important for making adjustments, isolating certain things. For example, Manny would want to start cage sessions with certain warm-ups to emphasize a feel to make an adjustment based off our last session. Like the bracing-feel swing he was doing. Not something I'd personally recommend and looks a bit goofy, but it's just to get a feel
5th: Simple vs Complex. Sometimes the best thing you can do with the most complex action in sports is to simplify it. Why Manny and I connected so well is how much we both emphasize a strong fundamental foundation, and key themes in a swing like efficiency, simplification, etc. The more I've studied MLB swings, adjustments that are made are way more fundamental/simple than they are high-level/complex
Having Manny as a part of an MLB hitting staff would be legendary, but also valuable. A guy that can connect with players, talk from experience and from knowledge
