Alumni Spotlight: Harold Lander (MBA ‘18) is an experienced real estate professional with a background in sustainable, ground up, mixed use, development projects across various asset types.

He recently worked on the development team at The Durst Organization where he oversaw the ex*****on of Durst’s 2.4M sqft, mixed use, master plan development in Halletts Point, Queens.

Harold pivoted into development after receiving his MBA from NYU Stern. He started his real estate career with Sciame Construction in 2013 overseeing the construction of CUNY’s new life science building in downtown Brooklyn. He was also part of The Related Companies’ construction management team where he focused on 30 Hudson Yards.

He graduated from the University of Rochester in 2013 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

“As an engineer by education, I lacked the soft skills and financial background that is typically taught in business school. Engineering school prepared me to work in construction where my time at Stern bridged the gap from construction to development. The part-time MBA allowed me to continue to learn to build a building through my job while gaining these valuable soft skills. Learning to think about business problems helped me to become a developer. When combining education with a world class network, my time at NYU was invaluable.”

The Chen Institute, Stern’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and our partners and co-hosts from across Stern hosted our final Pride program of 2023 on Wednesday, December 6. The event, which assembled more than 70 members of the NYU community and industry, featured a fireside discussion with Out Leadership Founder and CEO Todd Sears. Dr. Victor C. Mullins, Stern’s Senior Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion; JC Miller, Student Ambassador and Stern MBA Class of 2024; and, Susanna Stein, Senior Director of Stern Faculty Affairs and Co-Chair of Stern Pride, introduced and concluded the program.

We are grateful to our partners for this event, including Stern’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Pride Affinity Group, and LGBTQ+ Alumni Group; OutClass and Pride Corps; OutLeadership and Real Estate Pride Council; and, the Commercial Observer.
