Advancing Animal Genetics: AHITI-Kabete Hosts Professor Dr. Pascal Leroy from University of Liege, Belgium for innovative educational initiative on Animal Genetics & Nutrition
At AHITI-Kabete, we are committed to being at the forefront of collaboration, research and innovation. On 24th February 2026, we were honoured to host a distinguished Professor Dr. Pascal Leroy and his partner Coffi Barboza from Belgium for a high-level technical visit that promised to reshape our approach to animal health and genetics. The visit was marked by an intensive and fruitful discussion centered on the future of the livestock sector, specifically focusing on Cattle, Poultry, Goats, and Pigs.
A Masterclass in Modern Animal Genetics.
The highlight of the engagement was a specialized presentation delivered by the Professor, which provided our team with a window into the latest global advancements in Animal Genetics & Breeding, Animal Nutrition and Animal Health focusing on modernizing our approach to animal genetics while delivering training.
The dialogue was not just academic; it was deeply practical. We explored how European livestock models and genetic breakthroughs can be adapted to the Kenyan context to benefit our students, local farmers and the national economy. By integrating world-class expertise in breeding and nutrition, AHITI-Kabete continues to ensure that our students are trained using the most current, evidence-based practices available globally.
Fostering Future Partnerships
This visit marks the beginning of what we hope will be a robust and long-term partnership. We are currently exploring several exciting opportunities for future collaboration, including joint research initiatives in animal genetics, knowledge-sharing programs for our staff and students and potential exchange opportunities to further bridge the gap between Kenyan and Belgian livestock expertise.
