A new national study led by researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Vanderbilt University found domestic disturbance calls, warrant service, and investigative stops were more likely to be labeled "su***de by cop" than calls specifically about a mental health crisis.

The Center is sending our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of former Virginia state senator Janet Howell.

Senator Howell was a longtime champion of gun violence prevention, sponsoring bills to protect children and victims of domestic violence, requiring background checks, and other measures to reduce gun violence. The Commonwealth is a safer place today because of Senator Howell's dedication to protecting public health.

Jane Howell, the former Virginia state senator who served for more than three decades, has died at 82. Howell was elected to the Senate in Virginia in 1991. She represented the 32nd district in Fairfax County and part of Arlington County before retiring in 2024. Howell was also the first woman in Vi...

Congratulations to co-director of the Center for Gun Violence Solutions, Cass Crifasi for her promotion to full Professorship at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health! 👏💙

Professor Crifasi is a nationally and internationally recognized scholar in gun violence prevention and public safety policy, with a career focused on developing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based strategies to reduce violence.

Cass is also the director of Johns Hopkins BSPH Department of Health Policy and Management's PhD program. She is president of the Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR), and she has been appointed by Governor Wes Moore to the Maryland Handgun Roster Board.

This well-earned recognition and milestone reflects the impact of her scholarship and leadership in advancing evidence-based solutions to prevent gun violence.
