JUST IN | The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)โTagum City or the ๐๐ป๐ธ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฝ ๐๐๐ข๐ (Balik-Aral sa Selda) successfully conducted the Graduation and Completersโ Rites for the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Batch 2025โ2026 at the BJMP Tagum Covered Court. The ceremony was a celebration of perseverance, second chances, and the transformative power of education among persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
This year, a total of fourteen (14) learners were successfully recognized for completing their academic journey, seven (7) Elementary graduates and seven (7) Junior High School completers. Despite the unique challenges of their environment, these learners demonstrated determination and commitment in meeting the requirements of the ALS program, proving that education remains accessible and meaningful in all circumstances.
The formal confirmation of the graduates and completers was led by Bernardino E. Mejos, School Principal of Herculina L. Edig Elementary School. In his message, he affirmed that the learners had met all necessary academic standards under the ALS curriculum, emphasizing that their accomplishments are on par with those achieved through formal schooling.
Following the confirmation, Leila L. Ibita, Division ALS Focal Person, officially accepted the graduates and completers. She expressed deep appreciation for the learnersโ hard work and highlighted the vital role of ALS in providing inclusive and flexible learning opportunities. She also recognized the collective efforts of ALS teachers, BJMP personnel, and stakeholders who made the success of the program possible.
An encouraging message was delivered by Ross Chito G. Palo, Public Schools District Supervisor (PSDS), who reminded the learners that their achievements mark not the end, but the beginning of new opportunities. He emphasized that education is a powerful tool for personal growth, self-worth, and positive change, especially for individuals seeking a fresh start.
The event was further honored by the presence of key supporters and partners of the ALS program, whose continued commitment strengthens its implementation. Among the distinguished guests were JSupt. Ni**od S. Valenia, JSInsp. Ofelia P. Lapas, Ricardo T. Remoreras, PSDS; Delio C. Caya, EPS II โ ALS.
Their presence highlighted the strong collaboration between educational leaders and BJMP officials in ensuring that learners in correctional facilities are given access to quality education.
More than just a ceremonial event, the Graduation and Completersโ Rites served as a powerful reminder that education can change lives, restore dignity, and open doors to new beginnings. The success of the ALS program in BJMPโTagum City reflects its mission of inclusivity reaching out to those who need education the most and giving them hope for a better future.
