The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) officially opens the Call for Proposals for the CY 2027 Competitive Grants Program.

Anchored on Republic Act No. 7356 or the NCCA Charter, the program provides financial assistance to individuals, cultural workers, NGOs/POs/IPOs, NGAs, LGUs, SUCs, and organizations whose projects contribute to the development, protection, preservation, promotion, and dissemination of Philippine arts and culture.

NOTE: All proponents must first secure NCCA Accreditation and must not have any unliquidated grant or derogatory record with the NCCA or any government agency.

The Research Center conducted the Research Proposal Review on May 8, 2026 via Cisco Webex. The activity served as a platform for researchers to present their studies, engage in academic discourse, and further develop their research skills and competencies.
The program officially commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Miriam D. Baltazar, Director of the Research Center, setting a purposeful tone for the dayโs proceedings. This was followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Melbourne R. Talactac, Vice President for Research, Innovation and Extension, who encouraged participants to embrace scholarly excellence and forward-looking innovation. Mr. Mark Jayvee M. Mojica, Head of the Research Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division, warmly acknowledged the distinguished evaluators and presenters before presenting the official guidelines and mechanics for the research proposal review.
The presentations were organized into three categories and assigned to designated breakout sessions: Natural Sciences (Clusters 1 and 2), and Development and Social Sciences. Each session was facilitated by distinguished panel of discussants/evaluators and moderators.

Research Center conducted their 1st quarter R&D Coordinators Meeting via Google Meet. This meeting served as a way to present the research achievements of each Campus/Colleges and RDE Units for the 1st quarter, as well as clarifying some inquiries regarding the upcoming Research, Innovation & Extension Week.
The meeting proceeded with greetings from the Director of Research Center, Dr. Miriam D. Baltazar as she welcomed the newly designated R&D Coordinators. This is followed by Mr. Mark Jayvee M. Mojica, Head of the Research Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division, who facilitated the presentation of the MFOs/KRAs of the campuses, colleges, and RDE units for the first quarter. He also provided reminders on proposal submissions, the monitoring of funded projects, and announced the conduct of the 2026 Student Symposium.
The meeting concluded with strengthened coordination and collaboration among the Campus/College and RDE Units, fostering a unified commitment toward advancing the Universityโs research initiatives.

National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) 2026
We proudly congratulate our very own designated faculty-researcher, Assoc. Prof. Sheryl Dinglasan-Fenol, and her team for having been hailed as finalist in the National Invention Contest and Exhibits (NICE) 2026.
Their innovation, KArbonโa kaong-based activated carbon with a pending patent filed with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippinesโmarks a historic milestone as CvSU's first-ever qualifying entry to NICE. It is among the top five national finalists under the LIKHA Award - Outstanding Creative Research (Government-Funded Category).
KArbon previously earned First Place in the same category during the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits - South Luzon Cluster (ClusteRICE) 2025 held at DOST-PSHS Batangas City.
Joining Assoc. Prof. Fenol in the team are her co-inventors, namely Mr. John Laurence Herrera, Mr. Daeniel Mojica, Dr. Lorenzo Lapitan Jr., Mr. Yves Roy Tibayan, Dr. Agnes Alimboyoguen, Ms. Vanjie Otadoy, and Ms. Zoe Keziah Baltazar.
May this achievement inspire more innovators to turn ideas into impactful solutions for our communities and the nation.

The Research Center participated in the mock audit conducted by ISO auditors, headed by Dr. Agnes C. Francisco last April 29, 2026. The activity provided an opportunity to assess existing processes, ensure compliance with established standards, and identify areas for improvement in preparation for formal evaluation.
Through this initiative, the Center demonstrated its commitment to maintaining quality management practices and continuous improvement. The insights gained from the mock audit will contribute to strengthening operational efficiency and upholding institutional standards.

The Research Center took part in the Orientation for Second-Year Medical Students of the College of Medicine on April 29, 2026, in preparation for their transition into research in their third year. The session provided key guidance and insights to support their initial engagement in academic research.
Mr. Kris Rowell S. Garcia presented the funding schemes offered by the Research Center, outlining the available support mechanisms aimed at facilitating and advancing research initiatives. This was followed by Dr. Agnes B. Alimbuyougen, who shared valuable insights on developing a compelling and purposeful research proposal. The session concluded with Mr. Bernard S. Feranilโs discussion on the CvSU Manuscript Guidelines, emphasizing proper citation practices, as well as the prescribed format and style for research writing.
The orientation concluded with the students demonstrating enhanced readiness as they prepare to embark on their research journey, equipped with essential knowledge on funding opportunities, proposal development, and manuscript preparation.

In its continued effort to strengthen research governance and uphold international quality standards, the FAITH Colleges has initiated a benchmarking visit with Cavite State University (CvSU) to gain insights into best practices in ethical review processes.
The visit provided valuable learnings on organizational structure, standard operating procedures, documentation systems, compliance monitoring, and institutional policies supporting research ethics.
Dr. Miriam C. Du-Baltazar, Director of Research Center and Ethics Review Board Chairperson, Ms. Karen Louela Rint-Herrera met with the FAITH Colleges team headed by Dr. Vivian Titular.

The Research Center successfully conducted an Exit Conference for its four On-the-Job Trainees in recognition of the successful completion of their 200-hour training program. Throughout their internship, the trainees diligently carried out various clerical tasks, demonstrating commitment, professionalism, and valuable workplace readiness.
The trainees presented their assigned duties and shared their overall experience with the Center, reflecting on their learnings and discussing how their internship period progressed.
The Center extends its appreciation for their contributions and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
