[video description: on a black background, a yellow hashtag with the words “daylight savings time ends on 11/7” appears. Next, the camera shows a student, a Latina woman with red-dyed hair and an olive skin, waking up in a bed and a time on a student’s nightstand shows 7:29. A video clip slides into the right, shows another student, a white man with an olive skin, brown hair, and brown beard, sleeping on a bed and then it slides back out from the screen. A female student who woke up is walking into a classroom with her another male classmate, an Arab person with dark skin, dark hair, and glasses. A female student gestured to her classmate, asking where the other classmate is. The camera shows an empty chair, the student slides up in the screen and shows that he is still sleeping. There is a split screen which shows an empty chair on the top and the male student sleeping on the bottom. A female student’s classmate who she walked in with, gesturing to her saying he will call him on a phone. The student woke up and then the split screen shows the student waking up to his phone on the top and student on the bottom of the screen is holding his phone, calling him. Student is sitting on his bed, looking annoyed and gestures saying he just woke up while the other student in the class gesturing, he should come to class now. The student on his bed looking grumpy and he indicates a watch on their wrist and mime the minute circling a full hour around the watch, explaining the time went one hour back. The camera went back to a male student realizing he made a mistake, bump his hand on his forehead, looking at his classmate the class. The female classmate looking puzzled by putting her hands up. He gestured her that the time went one hour back. The screen flashes to an image of a clock showing that at 2AM on November 7, 2021, the time will move 1 hour back to become 1 AM. Happy Earth Day from the Gesture Literacy Knowledge Studio! Thank you for collaborating with us on this tribute to Mother Earth. Take a moment today to protect and tend our Earth, enjoying its beauty.
[video description: The Gesture Literacy Knowledge Studio logo appears in the top left of the video throughout. The words “Happy Earth Day” appear in white on top of a photograph of a sunflower.
A white person with shoulder-length blonde hair, gold leaf earrings, and a black tshirt appears on top of a photograph of a deforested landscape. They gesture trees being chopped down, a bulldozer moving earth, and tall buildings being erected, all with a pained expression. The background photograph changes to a skyline with many cranes constructing new buildings. The narrator brings their hands to their heart in sadness. A photograph of a seed packet and seeds on black soil appears and the narrator mimes seeds being planted with a hopeful look on their face. They water the seeds and the seeds emerge into a seedling and then a tall tree, the gestures matching background images and again ending with the narrator’s hand on their heart and a smile on their face.
The background image is now a river surrounded by trees and the narrator makes a peaceful river gesture and then personifies a fish swimming through the water that then gets litter and pollutants dumped on and around it. The background image becomes a waterway littered with bottles almost completely covering the surface. The narrator depicts murky water and the fish dying with x’s on its eyes. The narrator then begins to personify a person picking up garbage, and the background image too is one of someone cleaning litter in a forest. Once again the water way is clean, shown by the narrator scooping up and drinking the clean water and the background image changing to an underwater scene, the sun shining through the clear blue water. The narrator turns to face the camera, nodding with their hands over their heart.
The background image becomes a crowded highway and the narrator becomes a driver, honking and shedding exhaust, and then a plane, polluting even more. The narrator mimics choking on the smelly air. Then the background becomes a crosswalk filled with pedestrians and cyclists. The narrator motions for others to join them in walking and biking together, waving to passersby. The next photograph is one of the inside of a city bus, the narrator gesturing the bus’ shape and people boarding. The air becomes clean and breathable as the background shows a sunlit tree canopy and the narrator breathes fresh air.
Next, the narrator is furiously taking turns typing, talking on the phone, and texting, all with an overwhelmed look, rubbing their eyes and covering their ears. Images of a smart phone and then of apps such as instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and Apple swirl around them. They shake their head and make an overwhelmed gesture. They look into the distance and the background and gesture a doorway with their hands, opening the door as the background scene changes to dewey grass with a sun rising in the distance. The narrator depicts the sun rising, trees waving

in the breeze, and a bird, flying. Once again, the narrator’s hands are on their heart as they nod peacefully, making a heart with their hands and smiling into the camera.
The video ends with a slide identical to the first one: the words “Happy Earth Day” in white with a closeup of a sunflower in the background.
Lastly, a white screen appears with logos for the Gesture Literacy Knowledge Studio, Gallaudet University, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and the handle appear.]

Daylight saving time

[video description: on a black background, a yellow hashtag with the words “daylight saving time” appears. Next, the camera shows a person’s computer screen in the middle of video editing. A FaceTime call from “Boss” comes in. The boss appears, a middle-age white person with white hair, admonishing the employee for being late to work, gesturing “work, time.” The employee, a young white person with long curly hair, points to their wrist to indicate time, and hold their hands up as if to indicate there is still plenty of time left. They glance at their clock, which reads 12:31. Their boss points to his wrist and then mimes a minute hand circling all the way around a watch face, one hour. The employee then look at their phone, which reads 1:31. They bring their hand to their mouth in shock. They then gesture an apology to their boss. The screen flashes to a Arab person with dark skin, dark hair, and glasses, who points at the viewer, then at their own head. They indicate a watch on their wrist, and mime the minute hand circling a full hour around the watch. They gesture forward and then pretend to wind a watch up. The screen flashes to an image of a clock showing that at 2AM on March 14, 2021 the time will move forward 1 hour to become 3AM. Then the screen flashes to a set of icons for the gesture lab, including the gesture lab logo of an overhead view of two figures in black and yellow, the Gallaudet University logo, and logos for instagram, facebook, and twitter and the handle appear.]

Next, a series of gestured videos appear with the Gesture Literacy logo, a yellow square with two black figures, in the upper lefthand corner.

The first is an Asian woman with long dark hair and a black t-shirt who makes a globular shape with her hands, pointing with one finger at various places on the globe. She holds up her pinky finger as a caption runs across the bottom of the screen, identifying this as the Japanese gesture for women. She clasps her fists in a gesture of strength.

Next, a white person with curly hair in a bun and a red puffy jacket looks down as if reading a card in their hands. They smile and sigh, and then pretend to scrawl a note on the card. They lick the “envelope” and then smile into the camera and make a heart shape with their hands.
An Arab person with round glasses, a goatee, and a red t-shirt uses their hands to make a box shape in front of them. They tie a bow on top of the box and then pass the box towards the camera, smiling. They end by forming their index fingers and thumbs into a heart in front of their face.
A white person, a red scarf, and glasses uses their hands to make heart shapes in front of their eyes, and then makes a heart shape in front of their chest and bounces it toward the camera.
A white person with a beard, glasses, and a sports jacket gestures towards themself, then crosses their arms with palms on their chest in a “love” gesture, then points towards the camera and blows a kiss.
