Comment “EYE” for eye strengthening activities to help a child with tracking to support their reading and writing skills if they are underdeveloped.

If you notice your child or student struggling to read, or if reading is often laborious, their visual system and eye tracking ability may be delayed or hasn’t fully matured.

Kids with visual processing and tracking delays often:

👀Skip words, sentences or paragraphs on the page
👀Don’t know what they’ve read
👀Blink frequently or close their eyes to refocus
👀Tire of reading easily and daydream

…additional signs of reading and visual system delays are broken down into pieces. Some kids may have strong visual skills in one area, but may break down in other visual areas.

****Remember, kids can still have 20/20 vision and fall behind in their visual motor and visual processing skills. Don’t discount reading and tracking delays if they have great vision when they visit the optometrist.

A nurtured connection with our babies is vital to nurturing their developing infant brains and our developing parent brains. A nurtured connection is an intentional state where our brains and bodies connect and mirror one another. We look into each others eyes, and communicate back and forth with facial expressions, sounds and movements. We are regulated, calm and curious. Our brain waves and our physiology synchronize and brain growth occurs in a nurture bath. It looks simple yet in our busy lives when we’re on the go doing all day many of us need to be intentional to have nurtured connection with our babies regularly. We need to practice being with our babies. This practice grows the stress system in our babies towards resilience and can rewire the stress systems in our parent brains towards resilience. It makes our babies feel safe, seen, heard, cared for, and good just as they are.
