I stood in the same classroom where I once spent years learning, doubting, experimenting and slowly finding my voice. But this time, I was standing on the other side, not as a student but as the one teaching.
Walking back into the FV department at .bengaluru few weeks ago felt like completing a quiet circle. In 2009, I arrived in Bangalore from Saudi Arabia, coming from a protected environment into a world that was loud, fast, talented and wonderfully intimidating. Design college was a place where everyone seemed better, clearer and more confident. And like many first generation creatives, I carried the weight of insecurity, comparison and the constant question, “Am I creative enough?”
Those years shaped me in ways I could never see at the time. Documentation, research, visual thinking, collaboration and storytelling became the backbone of the work I do today.
Returning to the same class to speak to the FC juniors about preparing for their graduation project felt deeply meaningful. I saw glimpses of my younger self in them - curious, unsure, ambitious, overwhelmed and hopeful. We spoke about readiness for the workforce, being accountable, setting boundaries (they already are brilliant at it), and about building a mindset that can carry them beyond the classroom.
I shared with them what I wish someone had told me in 2009. A communication designer is never limited. You are trained to think, see, connect and create. That opens doors far beyond what you can imagine at twenty.
My journey has moved through design, education, experiential learning, leadership programs and entrepreneurship. But the roots are still the same. They were planted in this classroom.
Thank you , for inviting me back and trusting me with your students. It was an honour to return to contribute to the next generation of designers finding their place in the world.
