Papa, will you get the moon for me, by Eric Carle. This book illustrates the phases of the moon in a sweet and creative way. The children simulated climbing a ladder just like the dad in the story. Many moon rocks were created and transported down the “ space chute.” A lot of star stickers twinkled on black night sky paper. The sun reflected/ bounced off the moon 🌕! The sun was actually yellow balloons with a splash of water in them for weight. Yes!! The children enjoyed tossing the sunlight at the moon !😂. We got creative and messy with shaving cream moonscapes and black night sky play dough. It was a wonderful morning 😊.

In The Snow : Who’s Been Here ? By Lindsay Barrett George. What a wonderful book!! The children recreated several of the pages from the story. They made porcupines , deposited red berries under the cardinals tree, made a stream for the mink to swim in, dropped corn for the animals and used leaves and play dough to make a nest for a family of squirrels. A favorite activity was scraping bark off a branch , just like a buck does. We used sticks to be our antlers. The children in the book discovered a sled with a thermos of hot chocolate and doughnuts left by their mom. We enjoyed the same snack at the end of our book adventure .😋. It was a really fun morning !

In the Snow: Who’s Been Here? By Lindsay Barrett George . This book is both beautiful and informative ! Thursday, February 1st , 9:15-10:45 at Miss Kathy’s Book Adventure in Mansfield. We will be doing a lot of building , art, moving and discovering 😊.

Oops!😬. My last post about Miss Kathy’s Book Adventure was accidentally sent without any text. The book was the classic by Ezra Jack Keats titled THE SNOWY DAY . We were able to salvage some real snow for our sensory table 😊. Another great winter themed book is on the schedule for next week. If it snows you can blame me 😂.

Activities include catapulting golf ball / snowballs , indoor skating rink , various foot prints in shaving cream, ice play, snowman art project , snow melting science experiment, snowball relay race and finally a nice warm bath ( for dolls) just like the character in the book enjoyed 😊. https://www.kathysbookadventure.com/home

Goldilocks and the Three Bears 🐻 kept us busy and happy at Miss Kathy’s Book Adventure this week! The children built sturdy homes for the bears using rocks and play dough. They fed bears porridge ( dry pasta ) after climbing over a table. Making porridge was a blast ! We used oats, flour ,spices and water. ( Expired kitchen ingredients come in handy 😊.) the children were amazing at sorting items by size and finding the right lids for empty containers. Next week we will dive into winter themed books. Yes, I am hoping for snow ❄️!
