Hi all,
I am again running an Online Revision Course for Leaving Cert Biology over the Easter holidays for Leaving Cert students.
The course is heavily geared towards the exam in June and what is required to gain top marks in each of the chosen topics.
Topics to be covered:
-Photosynthesis
-Respiration
-Genetics
-Ecology
-Genetics and Ecology account for at least 30% of the paper every year.( 42.5% in the 2024 paper)
- Photosynthesis has appeared on the paper EVERY YEAR since 2007, apart from the 2014 paper
-Respiration has appeared on the paper EVERY YEAR since 2007, apart from the 2010 paper

Each student will receive condensed notes on the topic, study aids and exam strategies.
Class sizes will be relatively small so please book as soon as possible by direct messaging me on this page, or texting me on 086 735 5477**

Revision of key Leaving Cert Biology topics in a clear and concise manner

Almost Biology D-Day!
Hope the exams are going well for everybody😎

Micro-organisms are a good go-to in your Biology revision, as they appear very frequently, the questioning is very repetitive and are not overly challenging!

Students often find the growth curve of Bacteria confusing, and get mixed up with the phases- particularly LAG and LOG!

A wee saying I use with my classes helps to alleviate the confusion:

1)Lately -Lag
2)Logan - Log
3)Stays- Stationary
4)Down -Decline
5)Stairs - Survival

Silly but effective!

A couple of important points:
- Clearly label each phase and both axes.
- You must show a little loop at the lag AND the survival phase

I`ve attached a link to a rough but effective PDF that I made this morning that condenses the Bacteria chapter. Also included is Viruses and Amoeba.

Struggling to understand Photosynthesis and the complex pathways of the light stage?

I created this visual and video based on an analogy I use to explain the pathways of the light stage to my students.

Photosynthesis can be perceived as extremely difficult to negotiate through in an exam, but by using a simple analogy you can remove your misgivings on this topic and nail the Light stage and its pathways 😎

Green to keep the examiner keen 🔑

Definitions make up 20-25% of the Higher Level Biology paper, making them an absolute essential component of your Biology study. There are countless biology "definitions" so it is vital to come up with a way of maximizing our definitions intake.

This morning I rolled back the years(10!), by covering my bathroom mirror in a form of graffiti! I simply wrote down definitions on post it notes and stuck them to the bottom of the bathroom mirror.

Think about it.... How many times a day do you check yourself in the mirror?
-Brushing your teeth X2/X3
-Fixing your hair
-Practicing your smile for when you have to tell the teacher your dog ate your homework
-Putting your contact lenses in
-Applying make-up
-Plucking a nose hair

How about reading your definitions while performing these tasks?

Simple definitions can be learned off quickly by repetitively READING them. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Simply, it is learning without studying.

When you are confident you have them learned off, simply replace them with the next batch of definitions.

Trust me. It helps. Read the definitions, write them out, stick them up.
