It's worth shouting from the rooftops! Don't wait for intervention. Please. Your child can close their reading gap so much more easily when intervention begins early. It's so much--SO MUCH--harder for kids when they are older. If your child is struggling in kindergarten or first grade, PLEASE DON'T WAIT.

Children should be screened for risks of reading difficulties as soon as kindergarten. Children who show risk factors should receive appropriate intervention...

Here at Eureka Reading Services, we're about to close out 2023 with several more students reading on grade level! Several are graduating from services because they no longer need me. That's definitely bitter-sweet but far more sweet than bitter. The clients who get early intervention always do the best. Early intervention matters!

This is a fantastic deal. Did you know that kids with dyslexia may also have difficulties with math and number sense (dyscalculia)? Chris Woodin is my FAVORITE math person, and he has worked with Nessy to develop a number sense portion of the Nessy family! I highly recommend it for any young children who are struggling with math. Failing to teach our children to read has significant consequences beyond the individual child. We pay more to incarcerate an individual for a year than it would take to remediate them. An average federal inmate costs taxpayers $44,000 a year. Ironically- federal inmates now qualify (by law under the First Step Act) for a dyslexia screening on intake and evidence based literacy instruction while incarcerated. It’s an embarrassment that we don’t make those same guarantees to our elementary school children…
