📢 What Payday Super Will Mean for Small Business

From 1 July 2026, a new system called Payday Super will change how businesses pay superannuation.

Instead of paying super quarterly, employers will need to pay super at the same time as wages — within 7 business days of each pay day.

For many small businesses, this will mean a shift in how payroll and cash flow are managed. Super will become part of the regular payroll process rather than a quarterly task.

Some things businesses may need to review before the change:
✔ Payroll systems and processes
✔ Cash flow planning
✔ Ensuring super payments are processed and cleared on time
✔ Making sure accounting software and clearing houses are set up correctly

It may seem a long way away, but reviewing your payroll systems early can make the transition much smoother.

If you’d like help getting your payroll processes ready for these upcoming changes, feel free to send me a message.

📌 Simple Bookkeeping Tips for Small Business Owners

A few small bookkeeping habits can make a big difference over time:

✅ Keep business and personal spending separate
✅ Reconcile accounts regularly, not just at BAS time
✅ Save receipts digitally as you go
✅ Set aside money for tax and GST
✅ Review your numbers briefly each month

📅 Reminder: December quarter BAS is due at the end of this month, so now is a good time to check that everything is up to date.

Consistency matters more than perfection — even small steps help keep things under control.

📋 January & February Business Checklist

The start of the year is a great time to stay on top of key compliance dates. Here are a few important reminders for January and February:

✅ January – Superannuation
* December quarter super is due by 28 January
* Most clearing houses take 7–10 days to process payments
* To meet the deadline, super should be submitted this week
* Check super is calculated correctly before submitting

✅ February – BAS Preparation
BAS for the December quarter is due 28 February. A simple checklist:
* Ensure all income and expenses are entered
* Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards
* Check GST has been coded correctly
* Review payroll and wages figures
* Make sure super and PAYG withholding are up to date

Staying on top of these early can help avoid last-minute stress and give you a smoother start to the year.

If you need assistance with super, BAS, or getting your books up to date, feel free to send me a message.

✨New Year Business Reset✨
The start of a new year is a great time for a simple business reset — especially when it comes to bookkeeping and systems.

If your bookkeeping feels a bit messy, your accounting software was set up in a rush when you first started, or you’re still doing everything manually, now is a great time to review how things are working. Setting up the right software properly from the beginning can save you hours of admin and a lot of stress as your business grows.

You don’t need to do everything at once. One small improvement now can make the rest of the year much easier.

If you’d like help choosing software, getting your bookkeeping set up or getting your systems running smoothly for 2026, I’m happy to chat.

Payroll & Super Tips for Small Business Owners
Hi everyone 👋
Payroll and super can feel confusing, especially when you’re busy running a business. Here are a few simple tips to help keep things on track:
✔️ Run payroll regularly – weekly or fortnightly, and avoid backdating where possible
✔️ Use your software properly – Xero & MYOB can automate paying staff and super if set up correctly
✔️ Check super is calculated correctly
✔️ Set reminders for super due dates – super is currently paid quarterly, but this will change to every pay day from 1 July 2026
✔️ Don’t leave payroll until the last minute – it’s much easier to fix issues early
For many business owners, the easiest option is leaving payroll and super to a professional. It saves time, reduces stress, and helps ensure everything is accurate and compliant.
If you’d like help setting things up or want payroll and super taken care of for you, feel free to send me a message — I’m always happy to help 😊

The Most Common Bookkeeping Mistakes I See (and How to Avoid Them)

As a local bookkeeper, I often get called in when business owners are feeling overwhelmed — and it usually comes down to three common mistakes:

👉 1. Not reconciling regularly
Leaving your books for months can create a big backlog, especially when BAS time rolls around. A quick weekly or fortnightly reconcile keeps everything clean, accurate and stress-free.

👉 2. Mixing personal and business expenses
This makes the backlog even harder to sort out. When everything is jumbled in one account, it takes much longer (and usually costs more) to untangle.

👉 3. Accounting software not set up correctly
If Xero, MYOB or Solo isn’t set up properly from the start, every transaction can end up in the wrong place — causing confusion, inaccurate reports and extra clean-up work later.

The good news?
All three problems are easy to fix with the right setup, simple routines, and a separate bank account for your business.

If you’d like help getting everything running smoothly — or want someone to take the stress off your plate entirely — I’m always happy to help.
