🚧 Why infrastructure matters for Kosovo’s future?
At the Vienna Economic Forum’s “Meet Kosovo in Vienna 2026” event, attended by Kosovo 🇽🇰 caretaker Prime Minister and other government ministers, World Bank Senior Transport Specialist Erik Nora highlighted the critical role of infrastructure in driving connectivity, trade, jobs, and economic growth.
While investments in roads and transport systems are essential, their full potential can only be realized when paired with greater efficiency, especially at borders. Even small reductions in waiting times can have a powerful economic impact, lowering trade costs and boosting competitiveness.
For Kosovo, improving transport efficiency is key to strengthening regional connectivity and positioning the country as an attractive destination for investment in the Western Balkans.

Celebrating 25 years of development in accounting and auditing in Kosovo 🇽🇰
The Association of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Kosovo (SCAAK), a member of the International Federation of Accountants, recently marked its 25th anniversary with a conference in Pristina. Since its establishment in 2001, the World Bank has supported SCAAK through financial and technical assistance—helping build Kosovo’s accounting, auditing, and financial reporting framework, including in relation to the certification of accountants and auditors.
Through continued collaboration, particularly via the World Bank’s Centre for Financial and Sustainability Reporting Reform (CFRR) in Vienna and the EU-funded REPARIS program, this partnership has strengthened corporate financial reporting, supported harmonization with EU practices, and improved the business environment in Kosovo. These efforts are contributing, through small and medium-sized enterprises, to stronger growth and job creation opportunities. SCAAK remains a key partner in advancing knowledge, professionalism in accounting and auditing practice, and capacity building in Kosovo.

🌍 International Children’s Day
During his recent visit to Kosovo, Michal Rutkowski, World Bank Regional Director for Human Development in Europe and Central Asia, met with children, parents, and teachers at Mama Kids Academy in Lipjan. Through the World Bank supported early childhood education voucher program of the Ministry of Education and Science, this women-owned kindergarten is helping expand access to quality childcare for families in need—currently supporting 50 children, including 6 from low-income households. By enabling mothers to seek jobs and build new skills, and by investing in early learning, this initiative is helping children get a strong start while supporting Kosovo’s long-term human capital development and economic growth

💦 Kosovo's main irrigation system, in the region of Dukagjini, has been upgraded and expanded, enhancing profitability and sustainability of agribusinesses in the country. Thanks to a project implemented by the World Bank Group and funded by the European Union (€9.1 million grant), around 4,000 additional hectares are benefiting from expanded irrigated services, and more than 7,000 farmers will soon enjoy improved water security and quality. 🔵 “Water is essential to drive jobs and prosperity. Making sure every drop is sustainably used is essential. By strengthening irrigation systems, we are doing just that, so I am very proud that the World Bank could be part of it”, said Carole Megevand, World Bank Country Manager for Kosovo and North Macedonia, at the inauguration ceremony. 🇽🇰 Armend Muja, Kosovo’s Minister of Agriculture, emphasized that the investment represents an implemented vision for a more modern and productive agriculture, which can better withstand future challenges.

⚖️ A strong justice system is one of the keys to economic growth. When businesses can rely on clear rules, enforce contracts, and resolve disputes quickly and fairly, they are more likely to invest, expand, and create jobs. But when property rights are uncertain or cases drag on, risks increase, and opportunities decline. - World Bank Deputy Country Manager, Jane Sprouster, at the presentation of the latest Justice Survey, funded by the EU and conducted by the World Bank Group.
