🧩 Friday Teacher Task: Become a Labour-Market Observer

This week’s practical GreenBridge activity is simple:

Choose 3 job adverts from your vocational sector and look for digital skills.

Do not only search for obvious technology words. Look carefully at the tasks behind the role.

An advert may mention:
💻 using spreadsheets
📅 working with scheduling systems
📊 updating records
📧 communicating with clients online
📱 using mobile reporting tools
🔐 handling information safely

Then compare the adverts.

Which skills appear repeatedly?
Which ones are sector-specific?
Which ones are useful across many professions?
Which ones should learners practise before entering the workplace?

This small activity can help teachers connect lessons with real labour-market expectations and identify where digital competences can be integrated more intentionally into VET.

🔍 Job adverts are not only for jobseekers.

For VET educators, they can also be a practical source of labour-market insight.

A job advert often shows which digital tools, systems, and competences are already part of everyday work. It can reveal that digital skills are no longer limited to office or IT roles. They appear in healthcare, construction, hospitality, administration, logistics, manufacturing, and many other vocational fields.

The important step is interpretation.

An employer may write “Excel,” “spreadsheets,” “digital records,” or “data entry.” These words may look different, but they can point to related competences: organising information, managing data, working accurately, and communicating results.

For teachers, this creates a useful question:

How can we translate workplace language into meaningful classroom activities?

Through GreenBridge, we explore how VET educators can use labour-market signals to strengthen digital skills, update teaching examples, and prepare learners for real professional contexts.

📈 Word of the Day: Labour-Market Signals

How do we know which digital skills learners will need in the workplace?

One answer is to look at labour-market signals: job adverts, company websites, sector reports, employment briefings, and direct conversations with employers.

For VET educators, these signals are valuable because they help connect teaching with real labour-market needs.

They can show which digital tools are becoming common, which competences appear across different occupations, and where learners may need stronger preparation before entering work.

This week, GreenBridge explores how teachers can read labour-market information and use it to support more relevant, future-oriented vocational education.

How can a teacher actually use GreenComp in class?

🌱 How can educators help learners develop sustainability competences?

The GreenComp Framework is a European reference model for sustainability competences. It provides a common basis for learners, educators, and institutions, and can be used to design learning opportunities that support sustainability education.

GreenComp focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to think, plan, and act with empathy, responsibility, and care for our planet.

The framework includes 12 competences organised into four areas:

🌿 Embodying sustainability values
🧩 Embracing complexity in sustainability
🔮 Envisioning sustainable futures
🤝 Acting for sustainability

For teachers, GreenComp can be a useful guide for integrating sustainability across subjects, projects, vocational practice, reflection activities, and real-world learning challenges.

🌱 Sustainability should not be treated as one separate topic or one isolated lesson.

To prepare learners for real sustainability challenges, green competences need to be integrated across the curriculum — through different subjects, practical tasks, projects, reflection, and collaboration.

The GreenComp framework helps educators understand which sustainability competences learners should develop, including systems thinking, future-oriented thinking, collective action, and valuing sustainability.

At the same time, Cedefop’s work on learning outcomes reminds us that education should focus not only on what learners know, but also on what they can do, understand, apply, and demonstrate in real contexts.

This means moving from memorising sustainability concepts to active learning experiences.

Learners can:
