The Queen - Lily of the Valley
The Queen's favourite bloom is thought to be Lily of the Valley, a plant famed for its white bell-shaped flowers and sweet smell.

Lily of the Valley is thought to symbolise motherhood, purity and good luck, and in the language of flowers represents sweetness, tears of the Virgin Mary and humility.

But for the Queen, Lily of the Valley is also hugely sentimental.
-The Queen carried the flowers in her bouquet of orchids when she married the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947.
- The Queen’s Coronation Bouquet in 1953 was made up of white flowers comprising orchids and lilies of the valley from England, stephanotis from Scotland, orchids from Wales, and carnations from Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

"The abrupt abandonment of handshakes and hugs. An expansion of personal space in public to six feet. And detailed conversations preceding any social plans about who else was invited and what risky behaviors they might have recently engaged in. Before the pandemic, any of these actions would have been considered rude, but over the past year, they became polite. Although etiquette has always had an undertone of safety first, during the pandemic, safety became the main point of politeness."

Our pre-pandemic social manners have been upended. But although etiquette is always in flux, its principles should be timeless.

If you were wondering - The order for the Parade of Nations has been determined for the first time by following the Gojuon order of Japanese strokes, based on the names of countries in Japanese. Previous Olympics in the country have used English to determine the order.
