Last week, the Peace and Conflict Center had the pleasure of meeting the Chairman of the Assembly of Kosovo, Mr. Glauk Konjufca. Together, we introduced him to the mission and goals of the Peace and Conflict Center. We were met with great hospitality and support, especially regarding our aspirations and future plans.

We hope to have future collaborations with Mr. Konjufca and to represent the Center at its greatest potential.

The RITK Peace and Conflict Center was honored to host an open discussion with Mr. Alexander Aalmo, currently serving as Political Advisor to the NATO KFOR Commander.

Mr. Aalmo spoke about his experience in the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, military service in the Balkans, and his devotion to national security. This talk was exceptional for our students because they had the opportunity to gain more insight into the present issues of Kosovo’s national defense from an international perspective and how to deal with them as future policy-makers.

Additionally, students were interested to learn more about the ongoing negotiations and Kosovo’s relationship with its neighbors and international allies.

In Mr. Alamo’s words: “Students are the hope of a better future for Kosovo.”

Similar events are of high importance to further advance our knowledge and expertise in foreign affairs, national security, and related areas.

We were honored to have Ambassador Jonas Westerlund, Ambassador of Sweden in Kosovo, as our guest speaker yesterday.

Ambassador Westerlund discussed the importance of dialogue and the need for cooperation from all parties in conflict resolution processes. The arguments and ideas were supported by the Ambassador’s personal stories of his extensive diplomatic career's past experiences in Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, and Kosovo.

His insightful and informative speech was highly welcomed among our students.

The main host of the discussion was RITK Professor Jeton Mehmeti, accompanied by the Peace and Conflict Center.

Petition We Are Europe 18/09/2022

Since its declaration of independence on February 17, 2008, Kosovo has met all of the EU's criteria, yet visa liberalization remains a distant possibility. Human dignity and freedom of movement are European values. Thus, why are Kosovars denied this basic European value?

We invite you to sign the “We are Europe” petition, an initiative undertaken by the RITK Peace and Conflict Center in collaboration with the Metropolitan University of Tirana, which intends to profoundly influence Kosovo's EU visa liberalization procedure. Once this petition has received a significant number of signatures, our final objective is to present it to the European Parliament, specifically the French Parliament and the Dutch Parliament, two nations that are impeding Kosovo's visa liberalization process. A physical presence in these governments will portray Kosovo as a country that has profited from the EU for the past 20 years but is still being rejected for its freedom of movement.

Kosovo's people, particularly the youth, have earned the right to free movement in Europe by remaining loyal to their country and its European allies. Sign the petition to support Kosovar citizens in gaining equal rights and opportunities as any other European citizen.
