This study aims to analyze the use and perception of hate speech by and towards young people in the university environment in Albania. The basis of the analysis will be a structured questionnaire with 200 young people, mainly in the age group of 18–30 years, with the aim of identifying the most widespread forms of hate speech, the most exposed groups and the perceptions of young people on this phenomenon. The empirical study has several focuses, but the main objective of this paper will be mainly to identify the most exposed groups and the perception of young people on this phenomenon. The results show that hate speech is perceived mainly as a gender-based phenomenon. It is clear from the survey that the group most affected by hate speech is girls and young women, followed by poor people and people in conditions of social marginalization, ethnic minorities, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, believers and non-believers, and finally boys.
