THE HOBO R-EVOLVE HEAVY ROBOT HAS ARRIVED AT MAT KOSOVO

An exciting new addition to the MAT Kosovo EOD & ERW Training Establishment Equipment capability has arrived.

Yesterday, the Hobo R-Evolve EOD & IEDD Heavy Robot was delivered to our training centre in Peja, Kosovo, marking an important step in our ongoing investment in advanced EOD & IEDD training capabilities.

The arrival follows the recent deployment of three members of our staff to Tralee, Ireland, where they completed four days of specialist training on the REAMDA EOD & IEDD Robot systems. The team is now fully prepared to put their knowledge into practice as the Hobo R-Evolve becomes part of our training capability, enhancing our already impressive capability.

The Hobo R-Evolve is an advanced, robust and highly capable EOD & IEDD heavy platform, designed to support a wide range of operational applications, including EOD, IEDD and CBRN operations. Its six-degree-of-freedom manipulator arm provides precise movement and a substantial lifting capability, while its advanced communications system enables operation over extended distances, including in challenging environments.

The system can also be configured with additional capabilities, including X-ray systems, the Remote Disruptor Platform (RDP), CBRN sensors and an R-Evolve training simulator, providing further opportunities for realistic and specialised training.

The Hobo R-Evolve will now be used extensively in the support of both EOD, IEDD and other specialised courses further demonstrating PCM and MAT Kosovo's commitment to our client training and the enhancement of our scheduled and bespoke courses, giving students the opportunity to train with modern robotic technology in a purpose-built EOD and IEDD training environment.

We wish to extend our thanks to the REAMDA team for the training and support throughout this process.

The Hobo R-Evolve goes straight into action from day one, being used to support our IMAS IEDD L3 course and a client bespoke Assault IED course.

The MAT Kosovo EOD & ERW Training Establishment is truly unique in our industry - where the very best training and our continued investment in our capability underlines our 'Center of Excellence' credentials!

This Week at PCM & MAT Kosovo: Three Courses Running in Parallel & Technical Workshop in the Middle East

From training in Kosovo and Montenegro to specialist IEDD programmes and technical engagement in the Middle East, it has been another week of putting expertise into action across PCM & MAT Kosovo.

International IMAS EOD L1&2 – End of Week Two

As week two of our four-week International IMAS EOD Level 1&2 Course draws to a close, students have continued to build their core field skills through a combination of classroom instruction and practical training.

Following hands-on detector and locator work earlier in the week, the students progressed through manual demining drills, reinforcing safe procedures, discipline and teamwork in the field. The week also introduced Mapping theory and exercises, Non-Technical Survey (NTS) and Technical Survey (TS), providing students with a practical understanding of how information is gathered, assessed and used to support safe and effective EOD and demining operations.

This week also saw the students take part in their Live Range Day at the Poliex Range in Berane, Montenegro, putting their developing knowledge and practical skills into a controlled live training environment and further strengthening their confidence with the final disposal through high order of a variety of live fuzed Land Service Ammunition.

Alongside the International EOD L1&2 programme, two client-specific bespoke IEDD courses have also been running in parallel at MAT Kosovo, delivering focused, specialist training tailored to operational requirements.

Meanwhile, PCM & MAT Kosovo’s Managing Director Ben Remfrey and SSME IEDD Jamie Buyers were in the Middle East conducting a technical workshop focused on the Counter-UAS, Missile & Guided Weapon threat, an increasingly significant issue for GCC countries in light of the ongoing regional conflict.

From pay-per-seat courses and specialist IEDD instruction to international technical engagement, this week once again demonstrates the breadth of expertise and capability across PCM & MAT Kosovo.

IMAS EOD Level 1&2 Course – End of Week One

As we close out the first week of our IMAS EOD Level 1&2 Course, our students have fully settled into the rhythm and intensity that this programme demands. Following the strong foundations laid earlier in the week, the focus has remained largely theoretical, with students continuing to build their knowledge of IMAS, munition groupings, and the principles that underpin safe and effective EOD operations.

The latter part of the week saw the class move into introductory theory on ADWs and GWs, further expanding their understanding of roles, hazards, and disposal methods. While (mostly) classroom-based, these sessions are critical in preparing students for what lies ahead.

With week one complete, the groundwork has been firmly laid. From next week, the course will progressively shift from the classroom to the field, where students will begin applying theory to practice and move into the more hands-on, practical elements of the syllabus.

We look forward to another demanding and rewarding week ahead as the programme continues to build momentum. And we’ll keep you updated!!

PCM delivers a wide range of IMAS-compliant EOD and ERW training programmes designed to meet international operational standards and real-world requirements. With experienced instructors, a proven training methodology, and a truly international student body, our courses provide participants with the skills, confidence, and competence required to operate safely and effectively in complex environments.

REAMDA EOD Robots – PCM’s MAT Kosovo Staff Training in Tralee, Ireland Ahead of the Delivery of the Hobo R-Evolve System

PCM’s MAT Kosovo recently deployed three members of staff to Tralee, Ireland, to undertake four days of training on the REAMDA EOD Robot systems.

In early September, REAMDA will export the first EOD Robot to the MAT Kosovo EOD & ERW Training Establishment in Peja, Kosovo, under an exclusive arrangement for the use and demonstration of the system during client training and bespoke courses.

The first robot under this agreement will be the Hobo R-Evolve system, an advanced, reliable and robust EOD robot with applications extending into CBRN operations. Its manipulator arm offers six degrees of freedom with variable-speed electronic actuator control. The arm has a lift capacity of 75 kg when retracted and 30 kg when fully extended.

The R-Evolve utilises the latest COFDM technology and Military Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum, providing an operational range of up to 1 km in built-up areas and in excess of 1 km under line-of-sight conditions. It can also be cable-controlled over distances of up to 150 m when operating in Electronic Counter Measure environments.

The R-Evolve features four independent fail-safe firing circuits. The firing sequence is initiated using a removable safety key, followed by a five-second countdown during which a warning beacon flashes and an audible siren sounds.

Additional functionality can be integrated into the R-Evolve, including X-ray capability, the Remote Disruptor Platform (RDP) for under-vehicle and low-clearance operations, CBRN sensors, and an R-Evolve training simulator.

The Command Console is packed with useful features, including camera environment settings for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions, an LCD touchscreen that can be operated in direct sunlight and whilst wearing gloves, integrated speakers providing live audio from the R-Evolve, and a key-operated weapons screen complete with self-test and diagnostic feedback.

PCM & MAT Kosovo’s Managing Director, Ben Remfrey, stated:

“We are delighted to be adding this incredibly versatile and reliable platform to our already impressive equipment inventory. Having a larger, mobile remote system adds significant value to our technical training and complements the other systems we already operate.

I have admired REAMDA’s robots for a number of years, and having one of their units available for our client courses is a dream come true, not just for me, but, I am reliably informed, for our IEDD SMEs as well.

It only remains for me to thank Padraig and his team for hosting and training our staff over the last week. I know they had a fantastic time.”

It’s always great to see new members of our team bring their own skills and experience into the workplace.

In his first weeks with PCM and MAT Kosovo, our newest apprentice, Miguel has already put his diving and technical background to good use, helping restore a BAUER compressor and contributing to the development of our NBC training capabilities.

A great example of how practical experience, initiative and teamwork come together to create meaningful contributions from day one.

We look forward to seeing where his journey with the team takes him.

Read his full story below and see how this experience came together.

"During my first weeks at Praedium Consulting Malta Ltd and Mine Action and Training MAT Kosovo Sh.p.K., I feel that I achieved something that a year ago would have been unthinkable, my first month at PCM's MAT Kosovo EOD & ERW Training Establishment has flown by!

With my diving background, one of the first goals I had was to try to repair an HP BAUER Junior II compressor that had been purchased as UK Military surplus last year, but which had not been fully evaluated - this became a task I was happy to use my own experience to assist with.

The idea was originally to use this compressor to charge the cylinders at the school used in NBC anti-contamination sets, so that students could have a complete experience while training in NBC.
It is nice to bring expertise and knowledge to a great team of individuals where I was able to make a meaningful contribution.

As soon as I was informed about the stored unit and asked to take a look at it, I had a clear objective, to identify the problem and do whatever it took to get it running efficiently and safely.
I started by doing a general cleaning of the whole system, and from there I went on to check the wiring, the belt, filters, valves, etc. It wasn’t a complicated task, but it was tedious and time consuming to check the condition of each part.

When we finally got it running is when we noticed that something was wrong, and even though the compressor worked and built up pressure, the air couldn't reach the filler valve.
I remember checking the pressure gauge several times and it always read zero. Knowing that the air was being compressed and stored inside the system without having an element to check it, the safe option I took was to turn off the compressor directly and release that compressed air through the drain valves.

Since I still don’t have enough experience with compressors, I asked several members of TECNOSUB (our friends) for help, and they guided me on what could be causing the problem and how to solve it.

It was the 'Pressure maintaining valve,' which I disassembled to clean thoroughly. When we tested it again and saw that each part was working as it should, everyone involved had a leap of joy.

To avoid repeating the same mistakes, I will create a method of use and train my colleagues according to the manual."

Live EOD Spot Tasks, Part of Our Courses, Include Live Demolitions Assessments

The conduct of EOD Spot Tasks is without doubt a top 3 operational activity in our Industry. We at PCM's MAT Kosovo continue to strive to make our training as real as its possible to get.

Assessing our potential graduates has to include pushing them to their limits (where safety is paramount), this ensures that they are as ready as they can be, under pressure doing the right thing.

The conduct of live demolitions on live fuzed ordnance or varying kinds, using both high and low order techniques, is a key aspect of all of our Conventional Munitions Disposal courses.

Suffice to say - its a stand out part of our courses!
