🇼🇸Samoa–Japan 🇯🇵 Partnership Marks Groundbreaking of Major FOHS Project 🎌

🇼🇸The Government of Samoa and Japan, through their longstanding bilateral partnership, today marked the groundbreaking of a major project to improve facilities at the National University of Samoa’s Faculty of Health Science (FOHS).

✅The project represents an important investment in Samoa’s health education infrastructure, supporting improved facilities for teaching, learning and training the next generation of health professionals.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Government of Samoa, National University of Samoa, Embassy of Japan, JICA, Yamash*ta Sekkei Inc., Konoike Construction Co. Ltd and local contractors.

Hon. Prime Minister La'aulialemalietoa Leuatea Polataivao Fosi Schmidt in his remarks reflected on the vision of Samoa’s founding leaders to establish a university for Samoa, highlighting the importance of investing in the younger generation.

NUS acknowledges the strong partnership between Samoa and Japan and the collective efforts that have made this important milestone possible. 🎓

📣NUS–Taizhou Partnership Opens New Pathways for Digital Learning.

🍂Strengthening digital capabilities through international collaboration, the National University of Samoa and Taizhou Polytechnic have marked the completion of a special Python training programme for NUS students and staff.

🍂The programme concluded with a certificate presentation recognising the participation, commitment and hard work of NUS students and staff who took part in this important training initiative. The certificates acknowledged the participants’ dedication to developing their knowledge and skills in Python programming.

🍂In his remarks, NUS Deputy Vice Chancellor Peseta Su'a Dr Desmond Lee Hang acknowledged the valuable partnership with Taizhou Polytechnic and expressed appreciation to the trainers for their dedication, expertise and hard work throughout the programme. He also commended the participants for their commitment and enthusiasm, expressing hope that this training marks the beginning of a productive and lasting academic journey for those involved.

🍂The Taizhou Polytechnic representative Jiyao Zhang (Zenas) also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the NUS team, trainers and participants. He expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm shown throughout the training and noted how pleased he was to see the progress made by participants over the course of the programme. Speaking on behalf of the participants, Ms Christina Atoa Bandish expressed appreciation for the training opportunity and the knowledge and skills gained through the programme.

🍂The successful completion of the training reflects the value of international academic partnerships, knowledge sharing and skills development, while strengthening the relationship between NUS and Taizhou Polytechnic.

✅NUS looks forward to building on this partnership and exploring further opportunities for academic collaboration, innovation and capacity development. 🤝📚💻

🍂A powerful message shared by the Minister of Education and Culture, Hon. Dr Alec Ekeroma, during his keynote address at the official launch of the new Micro-Credential Courses for Teacher Aides.

✅The launch led by Rev. Malotau Lafolafoga with an opening devotion, marks an important milestone in the ongoing partnership between the National University of Samoa and the Ministry of Education and Culture, working together to address teacher workforce shortages and strengthen inclusive education in Samoa.

Two new micro-credential courses have been introduced:

📘 Teaching and Learning & Inclusive Education
🛡️ Management, Health and Safety for Teacher Aides

🤝The Minister highlighted the importance of investing in the education workforce and creating opportunities for teacher aides to strengthen their knowledge, skills and confidence in supporting learners.

🤝The event also acknowledged OLOAMANU Centre for Professional Development and Continuing Education for its collaboration and commitment in providing training opportunities for the selected participants. The Vice Chancellor and President of NUS Professor Tufuisa'a Patila Amosa, speak on behalf of Oloamanu, expressed appreciation for the recognition and for being selected to contribute to this important government-led initiative. Acknowledging the continuous support from Samoa Australia Tautua and the Australian High Commission, Samoa.

🇦🇺 Australia’s continued partnership in education was also recognised, with Ms Shirley Vaafusuaga, representing the Australian High Commission, Samoa, reaffirming Australia’s commitment to supporting strong and inclusive education systems where every learner can participate fully, feel empowered, and succeed in their learning environment.

🍂This initiative represents another important step in the long-standing partnership between Samoa and Australia in strengthening education and creating better opportunities for learners and educators.

📣The CEO of the Ministry of Education and Culture Afioga Tauti Jenny Lauano also encouraged the participants to make the most of this valuable opportunity, noting that they are the first cohort of the programme. Subject to the success of the Upolu cohort, the programme is expected to be extended to Savai‘i, creating further opportunities for teacher aides across Samoa.
