Fa’afetai tele lava to all who attended today’s CSS Seminar & Film Series:

“Taking as Rescue: The Manumea, Extinction Narratives, and Colonial Natural History in Samoa” presented by Hanna Wüste (PhD Candidate in History, University of Basel).

The session explored the Manumea (Didunculus strigirostris) within colonial natural history, extinction narratives, and Samoan knowledge — sparking valuable discussion and reflection.

NUS Open Day 2026 – A Visit to the Ofaga Research Museum

Last Friday, as part of NUS Open Day, we were delighted to welcome students from colleges around Samoa to the Ofaga Research Museum

The students had the opportunity to explore the museum, learn about Samoan culture and heritage, and discover some of the collections that are preserved and shared through CSS

It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and curiosity of our young visitors as they engaged with the exhibits and learned more about Samoa’s rich cultural heritage.

Thank you to all the schools, teachers, and students who joined us and helped make the day a memorable one. We hope to welcome you back to Ofaga Research Museum

Father's Day Breakfast at CSS 💙

The female staff of the Centre for Samoan Studies were delighted to prepare a special Father's Day breakfast to honour and celebrate our fathers in the workplace.

It was a wonderful opportunity to express our appreciation for their dedication, hard work, and the positive contributions they make to our CSS family each day.

From Paris to the Pacific: World Heritage origins and futures

Presenter: Dr. Luke James (Deakin University, Australia)

This seminar explores the history of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and its journey from Paris to the Pacific, highlighting the growing role of Pacific Island countries in shaping World Heritage discussions today. Drawing on recent archival research from UNESCO Paris, Dr. James will discuss cultural and natural resilience, regionalism, and future aspirations for the Blue Pacific Continent.
