A Successful Conclusion to the Extraordinary GBC Meeting between Cambodia and Thailand
The Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting between Cambodia and Thailand was successfully concluded on 7 August 2025, with the observational presence of Malaysia, the United States of America, and the People's Republic of China.
This meeting was the implementation of agreements made between myself and H.E. Phumtham Wechayachai, the Acting Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, during a special meeting held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on 28 July 2025, co-organized by Malaysia and the United States, with active participation from the People's Republic of China.
During the meeting, both sides — Cambodia and Thailand — discussed and agreed upon conditions for implementing a ceasefire and enhancing direct communication between the two armies. Both parties also agreed to accelerate the establishment of operational guidelines for the monitoring mechanism of the ceasefire by the ASEAN Observer Team, and endorsed the deployment of an Interim Observer Team, led by the Malaysian military contingent, for immediate observation efforts, while continuing preparations for the ASEAN Observer Team.
The two sides also agreed to convene a Joint Regional Border Committee (RBC) Meeting every two weeks, and a General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting every month following this Extraordinary GBC Meeting. In case of urgent need, both parties may call for another Extraordinary GBC Meeting in this same format.
The Cambodian side also requested the immediate release of 18 Cambodian soldiers currently detained by the Thai military.

Cambodia wants peace. We show patience. We protect our sacred temples. We ask for talks. History will remember who stood for peace—and who destroyed it.
