Bún Chả Hà Nội – A Taste of Vietnam’s Capital

Bún chả is a famous traditional dish from Hanoi, Vietnam. It consists of grilled pork (chả) and is served with fresh round rice noodle (bún), fresh herbs, and a special dipping sauce. The dish is well-loved for its balance of flavors—savory grilled meat, fragrant herbs, and the sweet-sour taste of the fish sauce-based broth.

The pork is typically marinated with garlic, fish sauce, and a hint of sweetness before being grilled over charcoal, giving it a smoky and delicious aroma. The dipping sauce, made from fish sauce, vinegar, sugar, garlic, and chili, enhances the overall taste and is often served with slices of green papaya or carrot.

Bún chả is a favorite lunchtime dish for both locals and visitors in Hanoi. Former U.S. President Barack Obama enjoyed it with chef Anthony Bourdain during his visit to Vietnam in 2016.
