A student told me, “I have taken the IELTS 27 times!”

I had 2 questions, “How many times?!? & WHY?”

“I thought I would get lucky”

“Really?”

“Yeah, I took the test at IDP, British Council and I even traveled overseas to take the test”

“Did it work?”

“No, I still got a band 5.5.”

“Why didn’t you hire a teacher?”

“No, that’s a waste of money.”

I thought, “Hmmm, but spending over $5,000 and getting the same score is not.”

He asked me, “Should I go to Thailand and take the test there?”

“You can take the test on the moon and you’ll still get a band 5.5.”

This student thought the wrong way about the test.

He saw the test as a wall that he had to climb over or find a secret door to walk through.

When he should think of the test as a way to check your level.

If you don’t get the score you want, you usually don’t have:

1. (Most Important) The right mindset - wall vs. check your level
