Stood amidst the mingled joy of a cheerful summer's day,

🍜 EC’s Mix-mi savored your food sensations dipped in the surrounding atmosphere.

🥢 Flavors were nourished inside your taste buds. Now, with our slogan in mind, "𝑴𝒊𝒙-𝒎𝒊̀ 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕, 𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔 𝒎𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓!”, have you missed us yet?

💭 EC has missed you already. So, we would like to give our love to wonderful customers that came to add a heartwarming touch ❣️ to the collective substance.

📷 We also want to give a big thanks to our cameramen and those from the Youth Union for capturing great moments of you and EC.

🌿 Ngày Hội Văn Hoá Đọc 2024 đang đến rất gần, đây là một cơ hội tốt để các bạn sinh viên SGU có thể tiếp cận và trải nghiệm đầy đủ nhất văn hoá đọc sách ở Việt Nam. Nhân dịp đặc biệt này, Câu Lạc Bộ Hỗ trợ sinh viên khoa Ngoại ngữ hân hạnh mời các bạn tham gia hoạt động trao đổi sách có tên gọi: "📚 ONE BOOK ONE SKY 🌥️"

😁 Nhằm thực hiện thông điệp ý nghĩa của Ngày Hội Sách và Văn Hoá Đọc Việt Nam năm 2024, nhà SSS muốn tạo ra một hoạt động mà ở đó ai cũng có cơ hội được sở hữu những cuốn sách hay và bổ ích. Ngoài ra, chúng mình cũng muốn lan toả sở thích đọc sách đến các bạn sinh viên SGU thông qua hoạt động này.

✅ CÁCH THỨC THAM GIA:
📚 Các bạn sinh viên đem theo sách muốn đổi đến gửi cho Ban Tổ chức.
📚 Sách của các bạn sẽ được phân loại thành các mức riêng dựa trên giá trị hiện tại.
📚 Các bạn sẽ nhận được phiếu đại diện cho từng mức sách được phân loại và phiếu sẽ có mộc riêng của Ban Tổ chức.
📚 Vào ngày Hội, hãy mang theo phiếu xác nhận có đóng mộc để tìm chọn và đổi sách mong muốn trong các hạn mức tương ứng với phiếu.

📖 THÔNG TIN ĐỔI SÁCH:
🕑 Thời gian:
- Gửi sách cho Ban Tổ chức và nhận phiếu xác nhận có đóng mộc: Từ ngày 08/4 đến 13/4.
- Đưa phiếu xác nhận có đóng mộc và lấy sách tương ứng: Ngày 20/4.

🏫 Địa điểm: Trước phòng C.A010 (Lab 1)

+ Sách Giáo Khoa
+ Sách có nội dung cổ xuý, nhạy cảm
+ Các loại truyện tranh
- Sách đổi không bị bẩn, rách.
- Giữ kĩ giấy xác nhận có đóng mộc.

Should we try to bring extinct species back to life?

A. The passenger pigeon used to fly in flocks of potentially millions across North America, their migration was once one of nature’s great spectacles. Sadly, their existence ended on September 1st, 1914, at the Cincinnati Zoo. Geneticist Ben Novak is the lead researcher on an ambitious project which aims to resurrect the species through a process known as ‘de-extinction’.

The basic premise involves using cloning technology to turn the DNA of extinct animals into a fertilised embryo, which is then carried by the nearest relative still in existence before being born into a living, breathing animal.

B. In Australia, the thylacine, more commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger, is another extinct creature which genetic scientists are striving to bring back to life. ‘There is no carnivore now in Tasmania that fills the niche which thylacines once occupied,’ explains Michael Archer of UNSW Sydney

Since the thylacine went extinct, there has been a spread in a ‘dangerously debilitating’ facial tumour syndrome which threatens the livelihood of Tasmanian devils. ‘The return of thylacines to Tasmania could help to ensure that devils are never again subjected to risks of this kind.’

C. ‘The idea of de-extinction is that we can reverse this process, bringing species that no longer exist back to life,’ says Beth Shapiro of UC Santa Cruz’s Genomics Institute.

‘There is no way to bring back something identical to a species that went extinct a long time ago.’ A more practical approach is to take the DNA of existing species as a template, to create a hybrid, which looks and/or acts like the animal that died out.

D. ‘For us, the goal has always been replacing the extinct species with a suitable replacement,’ explains Novak. ‘When it comes to breeding, band-tailed pigeons would make maybe one or two nests per hectare, whereas passenger pigeons would make 10,000 or more.’

Since the disappearance of this key species, ecosystems in the eastern US have suffered, as the lack of necessary disturbance caused by thousands of passenger pigeons minimised the need for regrowth.

According to Novak, a band-tailed and passenger pigeon hybrid could, in theory, re-establish that forest disturbance, thereby creating a habitat necessary for other native species to thrive.

E. George Church, leader of the Woolly Mammoth Revival Project, has been focusing on cold resistance, the main way in which the extinct woolly mammoth and its nearest living relative, the Asian elephant, differ.

Their goal is to return mammoth-like species to the tundras. Necessary adaptations for Asian elephants to survive in the tundras include smaller ears, thicker hair, and extra insulating fat, all for reducing heat loss.’

This repopulation of large mammals in tundras and boreal forests could also be a useful factor in reducing carbon emissions from melting permafrost.

F. ‘Many of the technologies that people have in mind when they think about de-extinction can be used as a form of “genetic rescue”,’ explains Shapiro.

She prefers to focus the debate on how this emerging technology could be used to understand why various species went extinct and how we could use it to prevent mass extinctions in the future.

Therefore, Vietnamese Teacher’s Day is a special celebration to raise our hats to the 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗲𝘀 of our country.

🤩 As 𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀 for mankind, you have guided every student’s future through unexplored trajectories. The love for 𝗲𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 and 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 from us students goes to show that you deserve all the honor and praise of being admirable educators.
