Some share the view that children must follow what older people say while others believe that they should be natural to challenge it. Which view do you prefer?

Sample by Quang Chí Cường

There has been ongoing debate about/ over children’s behavior toward adults. Some hold the view that children must obey what elders tell them to do while others are convinced that children should have freedom to speak out (express/ voice) their mind. Personally, I support the latter’s point of view. This essay will grant us a chance to elaborate upon this issue.

To begin with, it is a fundamental human right to voice one’s opinion . Hence, children should be at liberty to express themselves even if this infers that they seem to challenge the words of adults. To some extent, along with appropriate manners and attitudes, it does not necessarily mean that they disobey. In fact, it is a proper way for children to build their confidence simply because they are not as scared to voice their own opinions in the future. Furthermore, it can result in critical thinking skills, which benefit children in a long run. All in all, speaking up one’s mind is undoubtedly the most effective way to practice numerous essential soft skills.

Besides, it is widely acknowledged (many people acknowledge) that children are constantly curious of new experiences. They keep asking questions about the world around them or anything they come into their eyes. In other words, from the perspective of children, asking questions is more for learning than insulting. Therefore, as/ when challenging what adults say, children basically consider it means of obtaining new knowledge. Once again, it does not necessarily mean that they have an intention to disobey adults/ not to obey adults .

In summary, it is natural for children to express their thoughts out of curiosity and desire for new knowledge, not to mention another fact that freedom of speech is a basic human right.

Given is the bar chart illustrating the figure of people who suffered from malaria in Vietnam over a nine-year period, from 2010 to 2019, in thousands. In general, it witnessed an overall upward trend with substantial variations over the time shown.
As can be seen from the chart, the number of people coming down with malaria started at 20,000 in 2010. Then, the quantity remained constant at 20,000 until 2011 before it experienced slight fluctuations during the next 4 years, from 2011 to 2014. However, it is very noticeable and astonishing that the number of malaria patients rose drastically (by) over twofold to 50,000 in 2015, just a year later, and then it levelled off until 2016. Even though there was a marginal decline of 2,000 in the figure of malaria sufferers in 2017, it surged and reached a peak of 60,000 in 2018. Overall, it should be noted that the total volume of patients suffering from malaria in the second half of the surveyed period was almost double that in the first half.

Given is the bar chart illustrating the numbers of students majoring in Business Administration (BA) as regards female and male students, in thousands, from 2014 to 2019. In general, it is clear that both of the figures experienced overall upward trends during the surveyed period of six years, and that the volume of male students outweighed that of female ones in the first half of the time shown, whereas the situation reversed in the second half.
To be specific, as can be seen from the chart, as many female students studied BA as male ones in 2014, approximately 3,000 each group. Nonetheless, the figure of female students, then, remained relatively constant until 2016 before it skyrocketed over twofold to 7,000 in 2017 while that of male ones witnessed a significant growth with substantial variations to reach 6,000 over the same period of time. During the past two years, the number of female students specializing in BA kept rising and reached a peak of 9,000 in 2018 before declining to 8,000 in 2019. Dissimilarly, that of male students/ undergraduates slowed down and stabilized at roughly 7,000 until the end of the surveyed time.

[10/19/20]   A true story

As far as I can remember, it was a cool afternoon. While I was waiting for the bus at the bus stop, an exhausted old woman carrying a big bag dragged her slow legs to the bench next to mine. She looked so weak that I decided to give her a hand. When we were on the bus, I kept carrying that big bag for her. Fifteen minutes later, the bus stopped, and we got off. I thought her house would be too far for her to carry the bag home, so I helped her bring it to her house.
While we were walking on the street, we saw a swordsman robbing another woman. I was so scared that I couldn’t say anything. It was fantastic that the old woman came to the robber, and then jumped to kick him. Neither I nor people around there believed in our eyes. To my surprise, the old woman turned out to be a heroine who was excellent at Kungfu. The robber was beaten to become unconscious at last. I called police to arrest him. The old woman asked the victim if she was fine. Fortunately, the victim was fine, so we continued to go to her house. As soon as we got to her place, I asked if I could be her Kungfu student, yet she refused. The moment I said good bye to her, she advised me to learn Kungfu to have a good health and help other people. Also, she gave me an address in order that I could learn my favorite kungfu. As a matter of fact, I hoped that I would be able to carry out what she told me.

From my perspective, my mother is a wonderful woman. To begin with, she takes good care of her children. In detail, she is willing to give us her helpful ears and share her experience in resolving any tough problems, not to mention another fact that she usually cooks delicious meals for our family so that we can intake enough nutrients. Besides, she makes no hesitations to help neighbors when they are in need. For instance, / As far as I can remember, / In my memory, she used to stay awake overnight to look after an old lady living near our home. Last but not least, she not only fulfills her work but also assists her colleagues, if possible. She always tries her best to work devotedly to complete her project on schedule though she normally seems to be overloaded/ overwhelmed with work. As far as I am concerned, no matter how busy she is, she manages to spend her little leisure time at weekends training new staff, if requested. To cut it short, it seems to me that the aforementioned virtues undoubtedly make my mum a respected person. (by Anh Thu)

Some people believe that online shopping has recently become trendy/ popular thanks to several benefits it brings to customers. Others seem to be skeptical of that point as they hold the view that online shopping bears many drawbacks. Discuss both views and state your opinion? Support your opinion with evidence and examples.

#ieltssample, #ieltsthaymanh

It is a plain truth that cyber shopping is getting increasingly popular. However, whether it is advantageous or disadvantageous to make online purchases is a subject of debate. Some seem to support the advancement of cyber shopping while others are critically skeptical of the values it brings to customers. This essay will elaborate on both views as well as my personal perspective. (Trúc Ly)

On the one hand, it is acknowledged that shopping via the Internet brings about quite a few benefits. Firstly, it is a quicker way to shop. In fact, with a connected computer, online shoppers can easily place an order for their favorite items just with some mouse clicks, within a matter of seconds. Moreover, it is extremely convenient to do online shopping. Shoppers can switch from one website to another so as to browse information about online merchandise that they wish to buy, right at home, without having to shop around. Last but not least, online shopping allows buyers to have a wider range of choices, ranging from customer goods to luxury items like smart electronic gadgets. For instance, the website named websosanh.com gives customers clear comparisons of all related products in terms of reviews, prices, guarantee policies, etc. which online shoppers can rely on to make their own decisions. (Thuy Tien)

On the other hand, online shopping can pose several drawbacks. The first one is that online shopping is believed to diminish the sense of instant satisfaction. Given that shipping may take certain time for the purchased products to arrive at the consumers’ home, the shoppers would not be able to try (on) them as instantly as they make a direct purchase at retail shops. Furthermore, costumers are incapable of checking out the products thoroughly. To be specific, it is impossible for cyber shoppers to examine the products closely to see if they are of superior or inferior quality.. Last but not least, it is likely that products sold online are less reliable. As a matter of fact, most online sellers only give a brief description of their products so that customers can be attracted to buy them. No clear warranty policy is claimed or authentically signed online. Thus, customers might mistakenly buy fake products, instead of authentic ones. (Thanh Phương)

To sum up, as aforementioned, online shopping bears both merits/ pros and demerits/ cons. Hence, I am convinced that buyers should not spend excessively cash on cyber shopping. Alternatively, they should balance between cyber shopping and store shopping in order to make the best out of them. (Thế Vinh)

THAM KHẢO BÀI THỰC HÀNH TASK 1

Given is the bar chart illustrating the amounts of fast foods, namely fried chicken, French fries and fish nugget, in tons, consumed in four major cities in Vietnam as regards HN, HCM, CT and DN in June, 2019.

In general, Fried Chicken was the most popular fast food while Fish nugget, on the other hand, was the least popular among the three food groups surveyed.

As can be seen from the bar chart, fried chicken was consumed the most in three cities Hanoi, Can Tho and especially HCM City, where the consumption of fried chicken was almost twice as large as that in the others, 7 tons compared to 3 tons respectively and significantly higher than that in Hanoi, 7 tons compared to 5 tons correspondingly. By contrast, the volume of fish nugget snacked on in each of the four surveyed cities was roughly the same, approximately 1 ton each. It is surprisingly noticeable that while fried chicken was the dominant fast food in Hanoi, HCM City and Can Tho, French fries outweighed its rivals/ competitors to lead the market of junk food in Da Nang as 4 tons of French fries was eaten/ consumed there compared to 3 tons of fried chicken and 1 ton of fish nugget.

[02/16/20]   THAM KHẢO IELTS WRITING TASK 2 SAMPLE

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Watching television has adverse effects on children. Use specific details and examples to support your view.

Written by KIM THANH (Học viên lớp IELTS band 6.0-6.5)

#ieltssample #ieltsthaymanh

It is a plain truth that watching television is a popular form of entertainment for both adults and children. However, while some hold the view that it is disadvantageous children in terms of health and education, others are of the stand-point that watching TV is beneficial for children as long as it is well-controlled. Personally, I am convinced by the latter’s view that watching well-selected TV programs helps children to widen knowledge and spend free time usefully.

On the opposite side, the opponents share the view that watching television has negative effects on children. Particularly, they may have less time for their study and outdoor activities. As a result, children have poor academic results as well as poor health. There seems to be a merit in their argument. However, it is widely believed that watching television is far from disadvantageous, but highly beneficial.

It is widely advocated that watching well-selected TV programs enables children to broaden their knowledge. As a matter of fact, children can learn enormously about new countries, peoples and cultures from various TV programs or channels such as TedTalk, Features, TalkEnglish, etc., not to mention that, thanks to their daily acquisition of useful knowledge on TV, children are able to widen their vision and mindset to keep up with the fast- changing modern life.

Another convincing argument for the latter’s view is that children can spend time usefully by watching suitable TV programs at home. For instance, children can run an errand for (giúp việc lặt vặt cho) parents whilst watching TV, which makes it possible for them to develop certain skills, namely time management and problem-solving skills. Thus, they have a sense of maturity. By excelling in (bằng việc/ tham gia vào) watching well – selected TV programs at home, they can stay away from social evils and temptations.

All things considered, it is both advantageous and disadvantageous for children to watch TV. Nonetheless, I am in favor of the standpoint that children will benefit greatly from watching television provided that (nếu) their viewing is well-controlled.
