Can You Survive in Vietnam Without Vietnamese?
Yeah… of course you can.
Especially in big cities, many people can get by using basic English, translation apps, or simple gestures. Life will still work—ordering food, booking services, and handling daily tasks is definitely possible.
But…
It’s a very different experience when you don’t speak the language.
Simple things become slower. Conversations stay surface-level. And you often miss out on the small, meaningful moments that happen in everyday interactions.
Because Vietnamese isn’t just about “surviving” in Vietnam—it’s about connecting with it.
From chatting with locals at a café, to understanding jokes, to feeling more at home in daily life… language changes everything.
So yes, you can survive without Vietnamese.
But with even a little Vietnamese, you start to belong a lot more.

How Small Classes Improve Language Learning
Learning a language isn’t just about what you study—it’s also about how you learn it.
Small classes create a very different experience compared to large groups. With fewer students, you get more speaking time, more interaction, and more direct feedback from your teacher.
At VLS, this experience is even more flexible and learner-friendly. Class schedules are designed to better fit your availability, so it’s easier to stay consistent with your learning journey.
And even in group classes, most sessions usually have only 2–3 students, meaning you still get a highly personalized learning experience without losing the energy of studying with others.
Here’s what makes small classes effective:
• More time for each student
• Faster, more personalized feedback
• Lessons adjusted to your level and pace
• A comfortable space to make mistakes and improve
• Flexible schedule that fits your routine
Language grows through interaction—and when you’re not lost in a crowd, every moment becomes a chance to practice.
At VLS, small doesn’t mean limited. It means focused, flexible, and effective.
👉 Sometimes, the best learning happens in smaller rooms, with more meaningful conversations.

A DAY IN SAIGON: EVAN’S JOURNEY TO “LEVEL UP” HIS VIETNAMESE! 🛵
From a $5 street haircut to his first 1-on-1 lesson at VLS — Join Evan as he navigates a typical, bustling day in Ho Chi Minh City!
For those who haven't met him yet, Evan is the Canadian creator behind the "Evan Eh!" and "The Evan Eh! Show" YouTube channels. Falling in love with Vietnam and calling it home for the past 7 years, he has developed a deep love for the local culture and lifestyle, even building his channel to help others settle into expat life here. Over time, he gradually realized that the "secret sauce" to truly enjoying life here: Speaking the language. Why?
✅ It’s a total game-changer for daily life (goodbye, translation apps!).
✅ It unlocks deeper connections with the locals.
✅ It turns a simple "Cà phê sữa đá" order into a meaningful conversation.
And we are thrilled he chose VLS to be his partner in this mission! Check out his first day "back to school" at VLS and see how he tackles those tricky Vietnamese pronouns! 📖✨

What Makes a Good Vietnamese Teacher?
Being a native speaker is a great start… but it’s definitely not enough.
At VLS, becoming a Vietnamese teacher means meeting a set of standards that go far beyond just speaking the language. Every instructor is required to have the proper academic qualifications recognized by the Department of Education and Training, along with a strong foundation in teaching methodology.
But that’s just the beginning.
Before stepping into the classroom, our teachers go through hundreds of hours of training, practice teaching, and demo sessions. It’s a process designed not just to test knowledge, but to refine how they teach — making lessons more engaging, practical, and effective for real-life communication.
Beyond these training stages, we also take time to carefully select teachers based on their personality and soft skills, ensuring they are a good fit for our learners — such as being friendly, patient, attentive, and able to explain concepts clearly in a way that students can easily understand.
Because at the end of the day, a good teacher isn’t just someone who knows Vietnamese… It’s someone who knows how to make you feel confident using it.
At VLS, we take that seriously — so you can feel the difference in every lesson.

What Our Beginner Vietnamese Course Focuses On
At the very beginning, learning Vietnamese can feel unfamiliar in every way—especially when it comes to sounds and tones. That’s why our beginner course focuses on something simple but crucial: helping you be clearly understood.
Instead of overwhelming you with too much grammar, we start with pronunciation and real-life language. You’ll learn how to greet people, introduce yourself, talk about food, describe people and places, and handle everyday situations like shopping or asking basic questions. These are the moments where language actually matters—and where confidence begins.
You might not say everything perfectly at first, and that’s okay. What matters is that you start speaking early, hearing the patterns, and getting comfortable with how Vietnamese really sounds in daily life.
Because before you can speak more, you need to feel okay speaking at all. And that’s exactly what we focus on from the start.
Curious what your first Vietnamese class could feel like?
Come experience it with VLS and see how quickly things start to make sense.

iGroup Class vs Private Class: Which One Is Better? 🤔
It’s one of the most common questions when learning Vietnamese and honestly, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
It really depends on how you learn best.
Group Class are great if you enjoy interaction and shared energy.
You get to learn with others, hear different perspectives, stay motivated as part of a group and they’re also typically more affordable, making them a practical choice for many learners.
Private Class, on the other hand, are all about personalization.
The pace, content, and focus are tailored entirely to you, making it ideal if you have specific goals or want to progress faster in certain areas.
So… which one is better?
👉 If you thrive in a social, dynamic environment and want a more cost-friendly option → group class might be the right fit.
👉 If you prefer focused, flexible, and fully customized learning → private class could work better.
At Vietnamese Language Studies, both options are designed to support different learning styles, so you can choose what fits you best.
👉 Which one do you prefer: learning with a group or 1-on-1?
