IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: Age
1. What do you think that the best age to learn to drive is?
Although a number of people learn to drive when they are just fifteen or sixteen, I think that eighteen is the prime age for a person to learn to drive. At this point in a person’s life, they are much more responsible for their own actions and behaviors than they would have been at just sixteen. This ensures that they will be more cautious while driving, more observant of the traffic rules, and thus be far less likely to get in a mishap than they would be if they learned to drive at an earlier age.
- A number of: nhiều
- Prime (a): trọng yếu
- Ensure (v): đảm bảo
- Cautious (a): cẩn trọng
- Observant (a): tinh ý
- Mishap (n): tai nạn
2. How do you feel about getting older?
I feel that getting older is both a blessing and a curse. My memories of my youth are now something that I cherish now more than anything else on Earth, as it was truly a time in my life when I felt free and invincible, and nothing could stand in my way. Now that I am older, I feel that I am more cautious and predictable than I feel comfortable admitting to. I guess in some ways this is a blessing though, as with age comes wisdom, so I now have the foresight to know when something I want to do on a whim might end in disaster.
- Blessing (n): phước
- Curse (n): lời nguyền
- Cherish (v): trân trọng
- Invincible (a): bất khả chiến bại
- Predictable (a): dễ đoán
- With age comes wisdom (idiom): gừng càng già càng cay
- Foresight (n): tầm nhìn xa
- On a whim: bốc đồng
3. Should we treat people of different ages the same?
There are certain things that all people are entitled to regardless of their age. One of those things is to be treated with respect, empathy, and courtesy. I find that we forget this fact sometimes when it comes to the way that we treat children and older people. I think that is because people forget that the very young and the very old still have opinions and input that we should take the time to listen to, as we more often than not take people in these demographics as seriously as we should.
- Entitle (v): cho phép
- Regardless of: không màng tới
- Empathy (n): đồng cảm
- Courtesy (n): nhã nhặn
- Demographic (n): nhóm nhân khẩu

IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: TIDINESS
1. Are you a tidy person?
While I don’t consider myself a neurotic neat freak, I do try and keep my house in order the best I can. I find that when my living space is in good shape, I feel more grounded while going about my daily routine. On a daily basis, I try and fix at least one thing in my home that seems to be out of order, just so I stay in the habit of trying to stay disciplined when it comes to keeping things tidy. My apartment might not be immaculate, but it’s definitely not a pigsty.
- a neurotic neat freak: kẻ cuồng sự ngăn nắp
- grounded (a): an tâm
- On a daily basis: mỗi ngày
- Disciplined (a): kỷ luật
- when it comes to: khi nhắc tới
- immaculate (a): tươm tất
- pigsty (n): chuồng heo
2. Are you tidier at work or at home?
I feel that in my public life I give greater attention to keeping things clean than I do in my private life, so the way I look after myself and the space around me at work or at school is sometimes night and day to how I keep things in my own abode. I guess this is because when I am engaging in activities with people I am not well acquainted with, I am more likely to be congenial than when I am in an environment where I feel more at ease.
- Give/pay attention to: chú ý tới
- Night and day: đối nghịch
- Abode (n): chỗ ở
- Engage (v): tham gia
- Be acquainted with: quen biết
- Congenial (a): thoải mái
- At ease: dễ chịu
3. Do you think people should be tidy all the time?
I reckon that while keeping your living environment well organized is a fundamental aspect of being a functional adult, I do think that it’s possible to go overboard with cleanliness. There are a number of people who take cleanliness to the level of obsession, and that is not healthy at all. So, finding some time at least once a week to do a deep cleaning, while doing one or two of the more pressing chores once a day is how I find a way to keep my place in shipshape without obsessing over it.
- Reckon (v): nghĩ
- Fundamental (a): cơ bản
- Funtional (a): có ích
- Go overboard: đi quá đà
- Obsession (n): ám ảnh
- Chores (n): việc nhà
- Shipshape (a): gọn gàng
4. Does your family think that you are a tidy person?
I think that would depend strongly on who in my family you were to ask. My mom would say that I can be quite the scruffy guy some of the time, as her standards of cleanliness are far more immaculate than my fathers, whose organization skills would be almost non-existent were it not for the efforts of my mom at home and his secretary at work. He would say that while I’m not an especially fastidious home maker, I am still not a man who enjoys wallowing in his own muck.
- Scruffy (a): bê bối
- Effort (n): nỗ lực
- Secretary (n): thư ký
- Fastidious (a): khó tính
- Wallow (v): lăn lộn
- Muck (n): đồ bẩn thỉu

IELTS SPEAKING PART 1: Staying up late
1. Do you often stay up late at night?
I am a night owl, and I feel no shame over stating this, even if early birds like to give me grief over being one. I find that the time when I am at my most productive and my mind is its most creative is after the sun goes down. I could not tell you that it is any more than I could explain to you why the sky is green and not yellow. Nighttime is when I find myself most motivated to take on difficult endeavors, so I often stay up late at night to take advantage of this.
- a night owl: người thức khuya
- early bird: người dậy sớm
- give sb grief: đánh giá ai đó
- endeavor (n/v): nỗ lực
- take advantage of: tận dụng
2. Did you stay up late more often when you were younger.
I don’t think so, and I don’t think that the majority of kids are even allowed to stay up late. My parents would have me go to bed around nine pm, despite any protests I might have had about doing so. They would even set a curfew for me when I was a teenager so I was not permitted to stay out as late as many of my friends, which is a point of contention that I often brought up to them.
- the majority of: phần lớn
- be allowed/permitted to do sth: được phép làm gì
- protest (n/): phản đối
- curfew (n): giờ giới nghiêm
- contention (n): sự cãi nhau
3. What do you like to do when you stay up at night?
Sometimes around midnight, I find myself thinking a lot about life and its mysteries. I find that being a nocturnal person imbibes in me a very introspective disposition. I guess this is because I am not having to deal with any external conundrums, so I am free to turn inward and think about the deeper meanings of existence. I even try and write down some of the more interesting musings I find running through my mind in the wee hours of the morning.
- Mystery (n): sự huyền bí
- Nocturnal (a): thuộc về ban đêm
- Imbibe (v): thấm nhuần
- Introspective (a): nội tâm
- Disposition (n): khuynh hướng
- Deal with (v): ứng biến với
- Conundrum (n): vấn đề hóc búa
- Musings (n): suy tư
- Wee (a): một ít
4. How do you feel the day after you stay up late?
While I would love to say with an honest face that I feel as fine the next morning now as I would have ten years ago, the answer is that tragically I have found myself more fatigued and fuzzy headed for the first half of the day after burning the midnight oil the night before. I guess one of the great tragedies of getting older is that a good night sleep stops being just a suggestion and starts to become an outright necessity. If I want to do anything nominally productive in the mornings, good sleep hygiene has become a pivotal prerequisite to doing so.
- Tragically (adv): bi thảm
- fatigued and fuzzy headed (a): mệt mỏi và mờ đầu
- burning the midnight oil: thâu đêm suốt sáng
- tragedy (n): bi kịch
- outright (a): hoàn toàn
- nominally: đúng nghĩa
- hygiene (n): sự chú ý
- pivotal (a): then chốt
- prerequisite (n): điều kiện tiên quyết
