🏮Before the school’s closure, our pupils have spent weeks preparing for Têt Festival: 💃traditional dances, Vietnamese songs and poems and various crafts to decorate the school with!
We may not be able to celebrate the Têt festival at school this year, but these activities put a highlight on Vietnamese culture. Children from various cultural backgrounds share traditions and excitement of preparing for the New Year’s celebration. 🎊
✨We are all looking forward to reuniting after the Têt Festival!

Since Tuesday our teachers have happily come to school to prepare for home-based learning. Wednesday was our first day. Children and teachers were delighted to virtually meet and share fun activities! Parents also came to pick up the activity folders prepared for each child to use during the home-based learnings. 🖥️
✨Teachers will continue teaching online until the Têt festival🏮🎊, hoping that we can all reunite after the holidays.
Schooling has once again taken an unexpected turn of events: home-based learning is back!
Our team is dedicated to making learning at home fun and fruitful 😀! Here are tips and advice we would like to share with parents who have children going through home-based learning. Later this week we will be sharing more about what we do at the school to keep our students engaged at home and help them gain autonomy in the process.
Together, we can brave through this challenge! 💪
✨ Our little time travellers just visited the Middle Ages, where they experienced living as kings and queens 🤴👸!
They have been studying what everyday life looked like during these centuries and even prepared for a medieval party, which was held yesterday.
Not only did they discover some new vocabulary around the theme of the Middle Ages, but the pupils also built medieval machinery and worked on geometrical shapes, colours, numbers, fine motor skills, creativity and comprehension of stories around the topic of the Middle Ages.
Medieval music, hand-crafted hats, afternoon banquet held dressed up in princesses and knights costumes added to the magic of this special theme. 🧙♀️

Composters are ready to use! CE1 and CE2 students learnt about composting and even had a chance to refill our old composters with soil and worms as part of the environmental project conducted throughout all classes. 🐛🌱 They have learnt how to maintain an ideal environment for worms by balancing the moisture and feeding them with proper food wastes.
Earlier this year, CM1 pupils set up a hydroponic wall and CP classes recycled glass jars into candle holders.
Here at La Petite Ecole, we pay special attention to the environment and we keep our students well informed to help them make their own choices in regards to the environment.

And the winner is our pupil, Josef!!! Congratulations!
✨ Following a French tradition that goes back to the 14th century, sharing the King Cake (galette in French) is part of the winter solstice celebrations. During these holy days, everyone used to be on an equal footing and therefore ate at the same table. Whoever found the broad bean hidden inside the ‘galette’ was elected King or Queen 👑 (or chief) of the day, and could order whatever they liked.
The bean is one of the symbols of the winter solstice, because it is the first vegetable to grow in spring. Nowadays, it has been replaced by a token or charm, often made of porcelain.
🤴 The children and the school staff have very much enjoyed sharing the cake on Thursday, and Josef found the bean and was elected to run the school for one day, so do expect some changes on February 4th!

Our school nurse, Clio, has started the second cycle of health intervention with all classes. Her aim is to raise awareness on proper tooth brushing methods as well as the effects of sugar abuse on health. With this information, young children can now wisely choose foods that clean their teeth.
Also, the children were excellent oral hygienists – they successfully scrubbed off “decays” on the plastic teeth models! Well done, kids! ✨🦷
In relation to our school’s theme of the year, Time Travel, little adventurers from the PS class travelled to the ancient Inca civilisation before the Christmas holiday kicked in. As llamas 🦙 play an important role to the Inca people, the children learnt and sang songs about them, learnt about daily life in The Andes, and were taught how to weave wool 🧶 just like the Incas!
🙌 What an experience for the children!
Last Friday, our children, teachers, staff and families celebrated Christmas at school. 🎄
🎁 This precious moment started with children gifting home-made presents to Vietnamese school staff to thank them for their work and support all year round.
✨There was a school choir singing Christmas carols, with parents showing their full support as the audience together with the children. The children then had a blast with games through the morning!
Everyone had a surprise when Santa turned up to present gifts to the children! Oh, what fun! 🎅🏻

🎀 ‘Tis the season of giving and as a gift, our children from cycle 2 & 3 read Christmas carols to the younger pupils! This is a great chance to reunite, bond and spread Christmas cheer and joy in the school. 🎄
✨ Reading Christmas carols is fun, but it is also an opportunity for the older children to work on their fluency, pronunciation, and teach them responsibility for the younger kids. After studying the structure of stories, cycle 3 children even wrote ✍️ and read their own tales!
🌟The preschool children were, of course, happy to listen while they discover these stories and share this experience together with the older kids!
🎄The Christmas spirit is in full swing at La Petite Ecole: decorations light up our school ✨, older pupils are offering Christmas carol readings to the younger ones, and children of all ages reunite to rehearse for our Christmas choir! 🎼
Children of all ages are working hard to prepare their Christmas party and crafting their own decorations. ⛄
🌟 More 📸 of our Christmas celebration coming up soon!

📜 This period, our little time travellers stopped in the Antic era. As their first project, they learnt about ceramics and even had a chance to work with Karine Guillermin, a visual artist specialised in creating animated gardens.
🙌 She introduced various clay modelling & colouring techniques and children from Cycle 1 to 3 had a chance to craft their own pieces!
We had lots of fun and have surely discovered some new talents around!

Last Sunday, La Petite Ecole ran for a good cause! 🏃♀️🏃
For the third year, LPE children, families and staff participated in The Lakes Race to help raise funds for orphans.
Our children have been working hard on strengthening their stamina with their teachers throughout the term. Our teachers also explained to the children how this event would benefit orphans and why they need help in raising funds. This educational project is part of the French curriculum and teaches the children the meaning of ‘community’ effort. 👩🎓
✨The cherry on top is when children of LPE won third place in the category 1-5 YO (600m race)!
Bravo, children! 💪
✨ Swimming is part of the French curriculum and a learning progression is carefully structured from Cycle 1 onwards, starting with a discovery and exploration of the aquatic environment towards step-by-step achievements.
All Cycle 2 children are now enjoying our on-site pool, as swimming lessons 🏊 have started at La Petite Ecole this week. Students are currently undergoing an assessment and will then be divided into groups of different levels in order to better support their individual learnings or to help more advanced students refine their skills. 🐬
🐠 Cycle 1 & 3 students will also be able to enjoy their time in the water later in the year. 🐠
