🇻🇳 Vietnam National Day – September 2nd

📚 IELTS WRITING: CÁCH DÙNG GERUND PHRASE (CỤM DANH ĐỘNG TỪ)

👉 Gerund phrase = V-ing + phần bổ sung
Cụm danh động từ có chức năng giống một danh từ, thường được dùng làm chủ ngữ hoặc tân ngữ trong câu. Đây là cách đơn giản để viết câu tự nhiên và học thuật hơn trong IELTS.
🔹 1. Làm chủ ngữ
Using public transport can reduce traffic congestion.
→ Sử dụng phương tiện giao thông công cộng có thể giảm ùn tắc giao thông.
Reducing plastic waste is essential for protecting the environment.
→ Giảm rác thải nhựa là điều cần thiết để bảo vệ môi trường.
🔹 2. Làm tân ngữ sau động từ
Many people enjoy spending time in nature.
→ Nhiều người thích dành thời gian hòa mình vào thiên nhiên.
Governments should consider investing in renewable energy.
→ Chính phủ nên cân nhắc đầu tư vào năng lượng tái tạo.
🎯 Công thức dễ nhớ:
V-ing + ... + V + ...
Ví dụ:
❌ People use public transport. It can reduce traffic.
✅ Using public transport can reduce traffic congestion.

1. Do you like football?
Yes, I do. I’m quite fond of football because it’s exciting and unpredictable. I particularly enjoy watching important matches with my friends, as we can cheer for our favourite teams and share our opinions about the game.

2. How often do you watch football?
I’d say I watch it once or twice a week, depending on my schedule. I usually watch major matches at the weekend, especially when my favourite team is playing. If I’m busy, I just watch the highlights online.

3. Did you play football when you were a child?
Yes, I did. I used to play football with my classmates almost every afternoon after school. We didn’t take it very seriously, but it was a great way to stay active and have fun together.

4. Who is your favourite football player?
My favourite player is Lionel Messi. What I admire most about him is his incredible ball control and creativity. He doesn’t rely solely on physical strength; instead, he uses his intelligence and technical skills to create opportunities for his team.

5. Why do you think football is so popular?
I think football is popular because it’s simple and accessible. You don’t need expensive equipment to play it, and people of different ages can enjoy it. Besides, major tournaments bring people together and create a strong sense of excitement and community.

Học viết Cấu trúc so sánh hơn trong IELTS Writing Task 1 👇👇
Công thức:
A + be + comparative adjective + than + B.
→ A cao hơn/thấp hơn B.

Một số dạng thường gặp:
higher than = cao hơn
lower than = thấp hơn
greater than = lớn hơn
smaller than = nhỏ hơn
more popular than = phổ biến hơn
less expensive than = ít đắt hơn

Ví dụ Task 1:
The percentage of people using cars was higher than that of people using buses in 2010.
→ Tỷ lệ người sử dụng ô tô cao hơn tỷ lệ người sử dụng xe buýt năm 2010.

The figure for Germany was significantly higher than that for France, at 65% and 45%, respectively.
→ Số liệu của Đức cao hơn đáng kể so với Pháp, lần lượt là 65% và 45%.

💡 Band 6.5+: Hãy thêm trạng từ như slightly, considerably, significantly, substantially để mô tả mức độ chênh lệch chính xác hơn.

Dưới đây là 2 cấu trúc câu phức rất phổ biến trong IELTS, dễ áp dụng để đạt khoảng Band 6.0+

1. Although + mệnh đề, mệnh đề
Cấu trúc: Although + S + V, S + V.
→ Mặc dù… nhưng…
Ví dụ:
Although online learning is convenient, some students still prefer studying in a traditional classroom.

Although public transport is cheaper, many people choose to travel by private car.

2. Because + mệnh đề, mệnh đề
Cấu trúc:
Because + S + V, S + V.
→ Bởi vì…
Ví dụ:
Because many people work long hours, they have less time to exercise.

Because technology has developed rapidly, people can communicate with each other more easily.

💡 Mẹo IELTS: Khi viết Task 2, chỉ cần dùng đúng những câu phức cơ bản như trên và kết hợp với câu đơn/câu ghép là đã giúp bài viết đa dạng cấu trúc hơn.

Đối với IELTS Writing Band 6.0, bạn chỉ cần sử dụng thành thạo các câu đơn rõ ràng, đúng ngữ pháp. Dưới đây là 3 cấu trúc phổ biến nhất:
1. Chủ ngữ + Động từ + Tân ngữ (S + V + O)
Dùng để: Nêu ý chính hoặc sự thật.
Cấu trúc:
Subject + Verb + Object.
Ví dụ:
Many students use online courses.
Governments should improve public transport.
Technology helps people communicate more easily.
2. Chủ ngữ + Động từ + Bổ ngữ (S + Be + Complement)
Dùng để: Mô tả, đưa ra ý kiến.
Cấu trúc:
Subject + be + adjective/noun.
Ví dụ:
This problem is serious.
Online learning is convenient.
Exercise is important for good health.
3. Chủ ngữ + Động từ + Trạng ngữ (S + V + Adverbial)
Dùng để: Nói thời gian, nơi chốn hoặc cách thức.
Cấu trúc:
Subject + Verb + Adverb/Prepositional phrase.
Ví dụ:
People work from home nowadays.
Children play in the park every afternoon.
Many tourists travel by plane every year.
Mẹo đạt Band 6.0
Viết câu ngắn, rõ ý.
Mỗi đoạn có 2–3 câu đơn kết hợp với 1 câu ghép đơn giản.
Hạn chế viết câu quá dài nếu chưa chắc ngữ pháp.
Đây là 3 mẫu câu xuất hiện rất thường xuyên trong IELTS Writing Task 2 và đủ để xây dựng bài viết ở mức Band 6.0
