Scientific studies have repeatedly found that explicit systematic phonics instruction is the most effective way to teach children how to read. Without it, some children will end up having serious reading difficulties. But what is explicit systematic phonics? Let’s break this term down.
Explainer: what is phonics and why is it important? Phonics instruction gives children letter-sound knowledge, a skill that is essential for them to read unfamiliar words by themselves.

According to EF, the results tell nothing about the other macro-skills and are biased toward respondents interested in English study and younger adults, who constituted the test-taking population.

Starters (pre-A1), Movers (A1) and Flyers (A2) preparation:
***Due to great success, since November 2010 these Cambridge English Young Learners exams have become compulsory for primary school students in Vietnam.
The majority of young learners see pre-A1 Starters, A1 Movers and A2 Flyers as being linked to their goals in life. Research has shown that most young learners agree that learning English will be useful for them when they ‘learn new things’, for study abroad, or to improve their job prospects. It also shows that setting the tests as learning goals is highly motivating for young learners.
***These courses prepare students with all five skills: reading, writing and listening, as well as spoken production and interaction. The tests assess all five of these skills.
Visual cues and colorful illustrations are used throughout the tests.
***The reading and writing requirements are reduced.
The listening tests use visual multiple-choice questions and material that is appropriate to the age-group.
Topics Include content that is familiar to young learners e.g., everyday objects, animals, food.
***The speaking tests involve simple conversations, straightforward questions and do not use a paired format in consideration of children’s limited interactional skills.
Other research suggest that these courses will prepare the students for more advanced exams in their future such as IELTS.
I have designed 3 different learning paths to satisfy all learners needs.:
3 months pathway (36 sessions) : This is a fast track for participants who posses a FCE or other intermediate or advanced English certificate. But also open for Vietnamese participants without a certificate but are able to communicate on an intermediate level. All sessions will be dedicated to the IELTS program.
6 months pathway (72 sessions) : A standard track for participants who need more support with vocabulary and sentence structures.
12 months pathway (144 sessions) : A longer path where we will start with some of the basics by using a establish Cambridge or Oxford curriculum before going to the actual IELTS program.
