TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At our [email protected] event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

Operating as usual

We are so excited about the upcoming event!
See you all there, we hope that everyone is ready for an amazing evening.

As Group Education Director for Nord Anglia Education Andy Puttock drives the strategy for building an outstanding education for Nord Anglia Education students worldwide.

Andy joined Nord Anglia Education in August 2013 as Principal of The British School of Beijing, Shunyi. His extensive experience and knowledge in international education have since helped to guide the “Be Ambitious” philosophy and quality assurance within our family of schools.

Andy is committed to the belief that every student can achieve more than they thought possible if schools provide the right environment for learning and remain relentlessly focused on providing the highest quality of teaching and care.

In his talk for [email protected], Andy will question whether education is about the journey or its destination.

[03/08/18]   Thank you everyone for coming tonight, words cannot fully express the depth of our gratitude to everyone who was present.

We would like to first thank the guest speakers: Dr. Rafi Kot, Professor Day and Mr McFarland, it has been an honour to have you with us today. We would like to equally thank the student speakers, Bennett Jones, Ana Samudio, Duc Huynh and Tue Minh Nguyen for sparing their time especially during their IGCSEs and IBs to spare the effort and contribute to tonight’s event. As well as Mr Pedro Roman who took time from his busy schedule to speak tonight. On top of the speakers, we would also like to thank for the amazing performances by Mr Dan Bi Mong, Sejal Suryawanshi and Sanny Wu. Speakers, performers, there would be no event without you.

We would like to also extend our gratitude to the amazing TEDx team, who have volunteered your time and are the backbone of this event. Among them, the Design team along with Mr Harper has helped amazingly in the creation of the TEDx logo.

Furthermore, tonight would not have been possible without the help with the school's tech team, Mr Astley and the Caterers.

Lastly, we would also like to thank Ms Kerr: our curator, Mr Goundry: our Director of Performances who assisted in the filtering and refining of speeches and deliveries. All of the work would have meant nothing without the official license from TED, the license that was obtained by Ms Gulinck. All three teachers have supported us every step of the way and we cannot be more grateful.

And last but not least, we want to thank all of our other contributors and especially the audience for coming. We thank you all deeply.

Tomorrow is the day!
Please be reminded that the event starts at 4pm sharp and that refreshments are available from 3:15pm onwards. Our team will be online on Facebook for any questions about the event.

We would also like to extend our biggest thanks to Mr Harper and members from the Design team on the creation of the wonderful TEDx logo.

See you all there!

A forthright visionary in regional medical care, Tel Aviv native Dr. Rafi Kot is the C.E.O. and founder of Family Medical Practice. He first opened the practice in 1994 after running a number of health care projects for remote minority groups in the Vietnamese north; his service today encompasses five clinics and a world-class emergency medical response system. He continues his charitable work, having led several missions to impoverished mountainous areas to supply distant village communities with supplies and essential treatments. He has developed Family Medical practice into one of the leading primary healthcare providers in Vietnam.

Dr. Rafi’s TEDx talk focuses on the innovations that have allowed his medical service to respond to and challenge the prevailing medical environment of Vietnam through a consistent pursuit of advanced medical technologies. These include the adoption of international emergency protocols and groundbreaking efforts to perform complex medical evacuations, on occasion surpassing the capacities of other regional countries in terms of technical difficulty. Come see Dr. Kot's talk on the 8th of March at our first [email protected] event!

Join us on March 8th for our first [email protected]! The independently organised event will be held at BIS and is licensed by TED.

In accordance with our agreements with TED, there will only be 100 seats available. Tickets will be sold at the reception for 40,000VND in February and distributed on a first come first serve basis.

Meet Tue Minh, a year 13 student from BISHCMC. She enjoys observing the world around her and always welcomes a vigorous debate on almost any topic. Though she has a range of personal and academic interests, her defining feature is her passionate love of learning.

In Tue Minh's talk, she will be sharing personal thoughts from the perspective of a senior high school student, struggling to identify a clear future. She calls for the collective self reassessment on society’s perspective on future goals and choices, drawing questions such as when will we be able to enjoy the supposed ‘future’ that was born from our hardship. Come see Tue Minh's speech on the 8th of March at our first [email protected] event!

Professor Jeremy Day lives in Ho Chi Minh City where he leads the Central Nervous System and HIV Infections Research Group at the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit. Research focuses on large randomized controlled trials powered to survival, designed to inform physician decision making at the point of diagnosis. Intervention trials, conducted throughout Asia and Africa, drive a programme of basic science investigating the ecology, pathogenesis, immunology and drug susceptibility of the pathogens of interest. Professor Day's speech will be on the topic of his research and that of clinical trials. Come see Professor Day's speech on the 8th of March at our first [email protected] event!

Meet Bennett Jones, a Canadian expatriate from a mixed-religion background. Besides his hometown of Toronto, Bennett lived in Shanghai for over three years and has been a student at BIS in Ho Chi Minh City since 2013.

Partly as a result of his own experiences and background, Bennett is particularly interested in the role religion plays in the identity of his fellow expatriate youth in an international school setting, discussing a range of ideas such as how religion acts in contribution as an anchor to the culture that expatriates leave behind. In preparation for his speech Bennett has sent out polls to his fellow peers to collectively assess the attitudes towards religion within his immediate school community. Come see Bennett’s talk on the 8th of March at our first [email protected] event!

[12/11/17]   This is the first year that BISHCMC has been licensed to organise our very own [email protected]. Since it is our first year, the event will sadly only run for 2 hours, from 4-6pm (although refreshments will be available from 3:15pm).

On the 8th of March, the event will host 3 guest speakers exploring a diverse set of topics from emergency medical evacuations, to clinical trials, to sustainable development. We also have 6 student speakers speaking on a range of topics from 'Learning to Unlearn' to a personal anecdote on how religion affects their identity - snippets into their topics will be disclosed at a later time.
