Last weekend, SSIS hosted a Model United Nations joint conference with ABC International School, bringing together 80 high school students to discuss world issues like COVID-19 and cyber warfare. Several SSIS students were recognized for their exceptional performance.

First-graders headed to Snow Town today to experience how people have to adapt to changes in the weather. Kids planned what they would wear, based on their learning about temperature and thermometers! And, of course, there was time to go sledding and make snowballs!
Although all Head of School parent coffees are special, this morning's HOS coffee was even more special than usual. For the first time since February, we were able to welcome parents onto campus. For some, it was the very first time they attended an on-campus event.
During the presentation on "Student Achievement," Head of School, Dr. Catriona Moran, and Associate Head of School of Teaching and Learning, David Chadwell, along with Director of High School Counseling and University Guidance, Kelly Braun, shared impressive data from the 2019 -2020 school year. Suffice to say, the results are a true testament to our students' flexibility, resilience, and courage during an unusual year.

At the beginning of every school year, high school seniors are paired up with second graders as a part of one of the buddy programs offered at SSIS. “The program allows the grade 12 students to develop their empathetic leadership skills, while the younger students learn from the role models they look up to,” according to High School Vice Principal Dr. Chute.

It was awesome to see the new skills Grade 5 students learned for their 20 hour projects! Students developed plans for themselves to learn something new through 20 hours of intentional effort and document their progress along the way, culminating in a presentation to their classmates.

[09/14/20] SSIS has 2 air-conditioned gyms, which together offer enough space to host 4 simultaneous volleyball matches or 3 basketball games.
Grade 6 art students designed their "Quirky Birds" in Procreate, then they drew up their design, painted it on paper, and outlined in markers. The birds are an opportunity for the students to celebrate their own quirks/ uniqueness. Most students hid patterns, symbols, and designs within their bird as a way to acknowledge their own quirks. It's a celebration of how special & individual we all are.
