On the Threshold of the New Year
Dear Mr. Nguyen,
In these final hours before the Jewish New Year, I'd like to share a thought and a request:
We are soon going to be steeped in blessings, tear-drenched prayer books, honey-dipped apples, and festively set tables.
Each of our heartfelt prayers will soar high above our earthly frailties and unite in supplication before the Heavenly Throne.
And right then and there — the Rosh Hashanah drama will unfold:
A new life-force — a divine energy never before revealed — will emerge. It’ll be greater than that of any previous year, and will cause the entire world to be renewed. (It’ll be further compounded this year, because Rosh Hashanah begins on Shabbat.)
Although we will not see this profound renewal with our physical eyes, its effects will be very real:
We’ll be able to achieve things this year that we could not ever before. We will be granted new opportunities to deepen our relationship with G‑d; and to practice and connect in ways we might have once considered too difficult, or even out of reach.
And we’ll be fortified with new strength to handle any challenges that we might face.
The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of saintly memory, would frequently elaborate on how precious each one of us is to G‑d, and about the ever-new opportunities, or lifelines, G‑d extends to us so we can come closer. And he’d expound on the extraordinary power of each individual to tip the balance of the entire world to merit and goodness!
On the global level, the vitality of this new G‑dly life-force will shield and safeguard His people Israel and all of humankind for the entire year to come.
Our Sages tell us that when we emulate G‑d by providing new life to others with generosity and love, this paves the way for the awesome gift of Rosh Hashanah, the gift of new life, that G‑d Himself lovingly grants each and every one of us.
Your gift of $54 to Chabad.org — or any amount that's right for you — will help so many precious souls find meaning, serenity and inspiration. It will literally give them life — when they most need it!
Please grant the world — and yourself — the gift of life!

In these final hours before Rosh Hashanah, blessing others with a gift is actually a gift to ourselves as well.

On behalf of the entire Chabad.org Team,
Shabbat Shalom and Shanah Tovah!

P.S. Providentially, tomorrow is September 11, a day seared upon the world’s memory for the evil attack on the United States 25 years ago. We have an array of insights about this day, including Rosh Hashanah lessons. Among them: “Let’s Roll…!” (fresh from today), and Wanton Hatred, Wanton Love (2001).
Considering that there’s no more effective way to banish evil than to increase in holiness, let’s finish the Jewish year (on 9/11) by putting some additional charity (tzedakah) into a charity box, and reciting some additional Psalms. Jewish women and girls, your Shabbat/Holiday candles hold the power to illuminate and transform the entire world!
NOTE: Charitable giving and candle lighting should be completed before sunset.
P.P.S For an array of Rosh Hashanah resources from the practical to the mystical, see the many sections here.
And here’s a life lesson from the Rebbe about the uniqueness of humankind.
P.P.P.S. It is customary to pray at the resting places of the righteous before Rosh Hashanah. Go here to send a prayer note to be placed at the Rebbe's resting place.
*Please note that in observance of Shabbat and Rosh Hashanah, our donation page will be closed from Friday, Sept. 11, 6:50 PM ET through Sunday, Sept. 13, 7:50 PM ET.
