📘 CÁCH RÚT GỌN MỆNH ĐỀ QUAN HỆ (RELATIVE CLAUSES) 📘

Mệnh đề quan hệ (relative clause) giúp bổ sung thông tin cho danh từ, nhưng đôi khi chúng ta có thể rút gọn để câu văn trở nên gọn gàng và súc tích hơn. Hôm nay, hãy cùng tìm hiểu cách rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ nhé!

🌟 Khi nào có thể rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ?

Rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ khi:

• Mệnh đề quan hệ đó không phải là mệnh đề bắt buộc (không làm thay đổi ý nghĩa chính của câu nếu bị bỏ đi).
• Động từ trong mệnh đề quan hệ và chủ ngữ chính trong câu cùng một đối tượng.

🌟 Các cách rút gọn mệnh đề quan hệ:

1. Dùng V-ing cho hành động đang diễn ra hoặc mang tính chủ động

• Khi động từ trong mệnh đề quan hệ ở dạng chủ động và diễn tả hành động đang diễn ra.
• Ví dụ:
• Câu gốc: The girl who is talking to your mom is my sister.
• Rút gọn: The girl talking to your mom is my sister.

2. Dùng V-ed (hoặc quá khứ phân từ) cho hành động đã hoàn thành hoặc mang tính bị động

• Khi động từ ở dạng bị động hoặc mô tả trạng thái đã hoàn thành.
• Ví dụ:
• Câu gốc: The wild animal that was injured is native to the polar climate.
• Rút gọn: The wild animal injured is native to the polar climate.

3. Dùng “to V” với những cấu trúc có mục đích hoặc bổ sung thông tin về khả năng

• Khi mệnh đề quan hệ có từ chỉ mục đích như first, second, only, last hoặc diễn tả mục đích, khả năng.
• Ví dụ:
• Câu gốc: She is the first person who can solve this problem.
• Rút gọn: She is the first person to solve this problem.

4. Dùng “Having + V-ed” cho thì hiện tại hoàn thành

• Ví dụ 1:
• Câu gốc: The man who has finished his work can leave early.
• Rút gọn: The man having finished his work can leave early.
• Ví dụ 2:
• Câu gốc: The employees who have been trained by the manager are responsible for these projects.
• Rút gọn: The employees having been trained by the manager are responsible for these projects.

The line graph illustrates the distance traveled per car in five different countries over a 30-year period.

Overall, it is evident that the United States consistently recorded the highest number of kilometers traveled per car between 1990 and 2010. Additionally, both the US and Britain experienced slight increases in the distance traveled per car, while the figures for the other three nations declined over the years.

In 1990, each car in the US traveled approximately 1,700 km, whereas in Germany, the distance per car stood at roughly 1,600 km. Over the subsequent three decades, the figures for the US witnessed minor fluctuations, reaching a peak of around 1,850 km in 2000. In contrast, Germany’s figure dropped to 1,550 km in 1993, remained nearly unchanged until 2007, and then fell to just below 1,400 km by 2010.

Looking at the line graph in detail, we can see that Britain showed a relatively stable trend compared to the other countries. Its figure started at 1300 km per car in 1990, rose to 1400 km in 1993, and leveled off thereafter. Conversely, there were decreases in France and Japan, with the figures for both countries remaining below 1100 km over the given period.
