🔥 We would like to inform you that the increase in number of students selected is due to an unforeseen circumstance. With the outbreak of the corona-virus, the government has recently extended the dates for high school national exam, impacting many of our candidates in the 12th grade who are left uncertain about their plans in the summer. Instead of disqualifying them out of uncertainty, we have decided to extend the invite to more students in order to expand opportunities and create a stronger developmental squad for the future.

🔥 We believe that every qualified student deserves to represent Vietnam and that being on the developmental squad would be an invaluable experience for all students.

🔥 Once again, congratulations to all students who went through a rigorous process and commiserations to those who were not able to join us this year. We hope this experience will only fuel your passion for debate. We hope to see your application next year for WSDC Team Vietnam 2021!!!

[WEEKLY DEBATE - THW BAN WEARING RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS IN SCHOOLS]

After two weeks of midterm break & trips week, we’re back with another debate motion: "THW ban wearing religious symbols in schools". Our members had a chance to practice their case planning from brainstorming to rehearsal in a standard preparation time (60 minutes), as well as to improve their point structuring.

Afterwards, we all took part in reading out an extract from “V for Vendetta”, a style practice exercise that is already familiar for long-time members in BVIS Debate. Not only did we have to be able to read fluently, we must be able to express different tones and emotions, from mysterious to fierce and dramatic.

[WEEKLY DEBATE - THR THE RISE OF HOMESCHOOLING IN MINORITY COMMUNITY]

Today, our club debated about the motion of ’THR the rise of homeschooling in minority community’.

Homeschooling among the minorities is becoming a common trend among this group of parents. This is due to the need of parents to protect their children away from racial bullying and stereotypical comments. On proposition, a popular opinion is that homeschooling further isolates children from society. On the other hand, the opposition could argue that homeschooling promotes education for those who couldn’t get access to a normal educational opportunity in their neighborhood.

This is among the first debates in the school year that acts as a warm-up for our current members and as some of the first debating experiences for our newer members. They’ve already raised their voices, so what about you?

Recently, the newly-elected Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson has decided to suspend the Parliament in pursuit of a no-deal Brexit. He justified this action as a nod to the people, however it has received a large amount of criticism and outrage.

What is your opinion on this matter? Would you like to see a no-deal Brexit happening in the future?

[1ST SESSION & RECRUITMENT SEASON 2019-2020]

After weeks worth of summer vacation, BVIS Debate just had its first session on Friday, focused on recapping of the basics and practicing point development to bring the pace back to the club as the new school year begins.

From next week, we will be starting our recruitment season for the new school year - just like last year, our club welcomes anyone from BVIS Hanoi secondary & has no commitment forced upon you. So feel free to drop by our club room (S200) every Friday!

We would also take this opportunity to announce our collaboration with project Amalgam (currently recruiting!), a journalism project dedicated to writing commentary about current events.

For new students, we are BVIS Debate, a debate society of friendly debaters open for students with all levels of skills. We are having debate sessions every Friday as always, so if you are interested, step into S200 and see what we’re all about.

[KOSMOS DEBATE CAMP - GRAVITAS DEBATE CLUB]

As summer arrives, the debate community has been rumbling with events - from the recent AWSDC & WSDC 2019 to debate camps from numerous debate clubs from all over Vietnam. In Gravitas Debate Club - CLB Tranh biện THPT chuyên Lương Văn Tụy, it's no different. So we'd like to introduce to you their own debate camp - Kosmos!

If you're feeling adventurous and curious this summer, why not venture to Ninh Binh and meet these incredible people that share the same spark? Gravitas Debate Club đã chính thức trở lại rồi đây. Lần này bọn mình sẽ mang tới cho các bạn một hoạt động vô cùng thú vị. Trại hè Tranh biện Kosmos 2019.
Vậy Kosmos là gì ?
Kosmos nghĩa là một vũ trụ có trật tự và khuôn mẫu.
Kosmos là một từ tiếng Hy Lạp, có cả hai nghĩa là "trật tự" và "thế giới", bởi vì người Hy Lạp cổ đại tin rằng thế giới luôn hài hòa và được đặt trong một trật tự hoàn hảo. Như vậy, bản chất của Kosmos là vũ trụ, vạn vật trong vũ trụ đều liên kết với nhau bằng một loại lực nguyên thuỷ và cơ bản nhất. Đó là lực hấp dẫn hay trong tiếng Latin là Gravitas, chính là tên của BTC trại hè lần này. Ẩn sâu trong cái tên của trại hè là niềm hi vọng, mong ước rằng trong thời gian tới, các trại viên đến từ khắp mọi nơi sẽ cùng nhau đoàn kết, cùng nhau học tập, sáng tạo, cùng nhau cố gắng phát huy những thành quả mà các thế hệ đi trước để lan tỏa tranh biện ra khắp mọi nơi.
Vậy tại sao lại là tiếng Hy Lạp ư? Bởi lẽ đây là ngôn ngữ có lịch sử ghi chép dài nhất trong tất cả các ngôn ngữ còn tồn tại, giữ vị trí quan trọng trong lịch sử thế giới phương Tây, là nền tảng sáng tác cho nhiều văn bản khoa học quan trọng. Cũng giống như vậy, trại hè tranh biện Kosmos được kỳ vọng sẽ trở thành bệ phóng về kiến thức cho con đường theo đuổi bộ môn tranh biện của các trại viên.
Trại hè không chỉ cung cấp cho các trại viên những kiến thức về tranh biện mà còn tạo một sân chơi để các bạn được giao lưu, áp dụng những kiến thức được học trong trại qua một mini-tournament.
Đến với Kosmos Debate Camp bạn sẽ nhận được gì ? Có thể nói khi tham gia Kosmos bạn không chỉ được tìm hiểu những kiến thức về mọi mặt của cuộc sống, mà còn cải thiện được khả năng trình bày trước đám đông, tư duy phản biện,... - những công cụ để trở thành một công dân toàn cầu. Đặc biệt đây sẽ là một sân chơi bổ ích cho các bạn trẻ tự do phát triển cá tính, nâng cao kỹ năng làm việc nhóm, kỹ năng thuyết trình, kích thích năng lực tư duy, đồng thời lan tỏa và phát triển bộ môn Tranh biện – một môn thể thao trí tuệ còn khá mới lạ ở Việt Nam.
