TWO VINUNIVERSITY ENGINEERING PROGRAMS EARN ABET ACCREDITATION

Two engineering programs offered by the College of Engineering & Computer Science at VinUniversity have earned ABET accreditation:

1. Electrical and Computer Engineering (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering)

2. Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering)

Both programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, effective October 1, 2023.

ABET is a globally recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates.

For students, this means that the engineering programs they are pursuing have been evaluated against internationally recognized standards for engineering education.

This milestone marks an important step in VinUniversity’s continued development of academic programs that meet international standards and supports its journey toward becoming a globally competitive university in Vietnam.

🇨🇦 Celebrating Our 2026 Canada-ASEAN SEED Scholars!

We are delighted to celebrate 9 outstanding VinUni students who have been awarded the Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) 2026!

Funded by the Government of Canada, the SEED Scholarship provides students from ASEAN countries with opportunities to study or conduct research at Canadian post-secondary institutions. For our students, it is a valuable opportunity to gain international academic experience, broaden their perspectives, and build meaningful connections across borders.

With this year’s cohort, 21 VinUni students have now been awarded the SEED Scholarship, further reflecting VinUni students’ strong engagement in international learning and exchange opportunities.

[Research Internship at VinUniversity] - Episode 02 | Crossing continents to build a greener future with Healy Jackson from University of Utah 🌱

Meet Jackson Healy from the University of Utah, who joined the VinUniversity Summer Research Internship to take his passion for renewable energy to the next level.

Working alongside Prof. Matthew Rolley on the NimbusClear project, Jackson helped develop an innovative thermoelectric anti-dew prototype designed to maximize the performance of CPV (Concentrator Photovoltaics) solar energy. Beyond cutting-edge climate tech, Jackson found a community of world-class peers driven by the same goal: protecting our planet.

Jackson shared: “My experience as a research intern here has shown me how hard-working everyone is. They are self-motivated, willing to go above and beyond, and truly committed to their projects.”

VINUNIVERSITY – UTS: STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIP FOR RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND INNOVATION

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has highlighted its key technology partnership with VinUniversity as part of its growing engagement with Vietnam across education, research, government and industry.
The announcement came this week as Australia and Vietnam launched Phase II of the Australia–Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre (AVSTC) on the occasion of General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Australia and the Vietnam Australia Tech-Connect Forum 2026 hosted at UTS. The ACSTC initiative aims to deepen collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, including 5G/6G, AI, quantum technologies, robotics and cybersecurity.
For VinUniversity, this broader momentum builds on a growing partnership with UTS. In September 2025, VinUniversity became one of UTS’s seven Key Technology Partners (KTP) globally and its only KTP partner in Vietnam. The partnership spans research and research training, teaching and learning, and enterprise and innovation, with both universities jointly investing in collaborative research and faculty mobility.
As a concrete result, 4 initial joint projects between VinUniversity and UTS have been awarded funding grants by the KTP funding scheme. These projects include:
- From Methods to Meaning: Strengthening UTS Capacity for Ethical, Inclusive and Impact-Driven Qualitative Health Research
- Cross-Comparative Analysis of IoT Sensor Performance for Smart Aquaculture: Lessons from Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa
- The impact of fetal monitoring technologies in labour and birth on women’s experiences and midwives’ work in Vietnam
- Nanobubble-Enhanced Treatment Technologies for the Removal of Refractory Organic Contaminants in Aquacultures
Prior to that, the two partners have established a strong foundation of collaboration since the very beginning when VinUniversity was just set up in 2019. So far, 87 UTS students have come to VinUniversity for exchange, and VinUniversity has sent 30 students to UTS on the semester exchange program. The two universities have also inked a collaborative PhD degree agreement to co-supervise PhD students from both sides in the area of computer science, with the first 5 PhD candidates joining the scheme. Alongside that, the integrated degree program, also known as the 3+2 between VinUniversity and UTS, has had 9 students join. In addition, the Vingroup Scholarship Program administered and managed by VinUniversity has awarded 14 Vietnamese students to pursue Master's and PhD degrees at UTS.
VinUniversity and UTS are now advancing joint initiatives across areas including AI and data science, health innovation, sustainability, critical materials, and digital transformation-turning institutional partnership into opportunities for researchers, students, and innovation between Vietnam and Australia.

| From NYU to VinUni: Maryam Alali Explores Energy Harvesting for IoT Systems
(English below)

Having first visited VinUni in 2023 to attend the World Schools Debating Championship, Maryam Alali, an Electrical Engineering student at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, returned to Vietnam this summer in a very different role — as a Research Assistant through the International Research Internship program. Under the supervision of Dr. Nguyen Quang Tan and Dr. Ahmad Hajjar, Maryam joined the project “Next-Generation Tribo-Hydroelectric Generators (THEG) for Smart IoT Systems and Sustainable Energy,” exploring new ways to harvest energy from sources readily available in the surrounding environment. For Maryam, this return to VinUni was also an opportunity to further experience a different academic environment and culture.
Follow Maryam’s summer research journey at VinUni, from exploring a new field of energy harvesting to designing and testing solutions directly in the lab.

In the THEG project, Maryam and her research team are exploring how to harvest energy from readily available environmental sources, including friction, applied force, and moisture, to generate electricity. By facilitating the movement of electrons, the system can generate small-scale electrical currents, with the potential to power IoT systems and low-power electronic devices. The research opens up possibilities for utilising energy available in the surrounding environment to supplement power for small-scale devices, particularly in applications that require flexible energy solutions. At the current stage, the team is working to identify the most suitable design for the system by developing and testing different configurations under varying environmental conditions, including with and without humidity.

From reviewing previous research and experiments to working directly in the lab, Maryam has had the opportunity to apply concepts from Electrical Engineering to a real-world research problem. Concepts such as Faraday’s law, the triboelectric effect, electromagnetic phenomena, and fluid mechanics are directly applied throughout the design and testing process. Moving from theory to practice has also given her a clearer understanding of how a research question is developed and validated through successive rounds of experimentation.

Sharing her experience at VinUni, Maryam noted that working in a research team with members from different backgrounds has given her new perspectives throughout the project. Working alongside faculty members and fellow students, she has had opportunities to exchange ideas, ask questions, and explore different aspects of the research more deeply. As she explores the emerging field of energy harvesting, Maryam is also gaining a clearer sense of the questions she wants to pursue and how research could become part of her longer-term academic and professional development.

For Maryam, this summer at VinUni has provided more than an introduction to a new area of renewable energy research. Through hands-on lab work and collaboration within a diverse research team, she has gained new perspectives on the academic paths ahead and a stronger foundation for identifying the areas she wants to continue exploring in the future.

VinUniversity Among Vietnam’s First Three Universities to Pursue “Elite University” Status

VinUniversity, together with Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU Hanoi) and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), are the first three universities to register for consideration as “elite universities” in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Le Quan announced the information at a conference on elite and excellent university models. According to the Ministry, the designation will not be granted automatically. Universities will be assigned specific missions and assessed against clearly defined criteria, with an “entry and exit” mechanism based on performance.
Vietnam plans to develop three to five elite universities nationwide, with a focus on cutting-edge research, international competitiveness, and a leading role in advancing the country’s higher education system.

For VinUniversity, this represents another step aligned with its ambition to become a research university of excellence — pursuing international standards of academic quality, investing in research and innovation, attracting outstanding talent, and creating meaningful impact for Vietnam and the world.

[Research Internship at VinUniversity] - Episode 01 | From Cornell to VinUniversity: KJ Parrila-Heinz’s Journey Finding His Purpose

Traveling over 13,000 km from Cornell University (USA), KJ Parrila-Heinz joined Dr. Nguyen Dang Tung’s research group at VinUniversity to develop organic semiconducting fibers for next-generation wearable electronics. This lab experience gave KJ deep insights into smart textiles and AI data optimization, while allowing him to fully embrace the proactive, curiosity-driven academic spirit at VinUniversity!

KJ shared: "I was expecting people to tell me exactly what to do, but I got a lot more out of this program whenever I was more intentional and purposeful about what I wanted to do."

This summer 2026, VinUniversity welcomed medical students from UT Health San Antonio – Long School of Medicine to Vietnam for an exchange program designed to explore clinical practice and healthcare systems from a global perspective.

Going beyond traditional clinical observation, the program offered a broader perspective on healthcare in Vietnam. At Vinmec Times City International Hospital and 108 Military Central Hospital, students experienced both private and public healthcare settings, shadowing VinUni learners in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics through daily rounds and clinical discussions.

The exchange program also allowed students to explore disease patterns more common in Vietnam and compare diagnostic and treatment approaches. Academic discussions with VinUni residents and medical students offered further insights into medical education and clinical training in Vietnam.

Through shared experiences and meaningful conversations, the program brought future physicians from Vietnam and the United States together to learn from different healthcare contexts.
