🚉 A snapshot of East Germany just before the Berlin Wall fell 🇩🇪

The Berlin-Lichtenberg station is located at Weitlingstraße, Berlin in the district of Lichtenberg.

In August 1989, shortly before German reunification, the station was one of East Berlin’s most important railway hubs. Many international trains to other Eastern Bloc countries passed through here, making it a major part of daily life in East Germany during the Cold War.

The station had a practical socialist-era design and represented the atmosphere of divided Berlin at the time. After reunification in 1990, its importance declined as long-distance traffic moved to newer central stations like Berlin Hauptbahnhof.

Today, Berlin-Lichtenberg is modernized and still active, mainly serving regional and local trains 🚆

Das ist eben so. 🤷

😀 How to use Modalpartikeln – EBEN! 😀

“eben” is a modal particle that expresses acceptance or inevitability. It gives the feeling of “that’s just how it is / exactly / what can you do?” It often sounds like you’re accepting a situation as naturally true or unavoidable.

Das ist eben so. ➡️ That’s just how it is.

Er kommt eben nicht. ➡️ He simply isn’t coming.

Man kann eben nicht alles haben. ➡️ You just can’t have everything.

Ich hab’s eben vergessen. ➡️ I just forgot it.

Das Leben ist eben kein Wunschkonzert. ➡️ Life just doesn’t work like that.

A medieval German town inside a meteor crater inspired Attack on Titan?☄️

Nördlingen is a small historic town in Bavaria, famous for its medieval walls and unique geography. The town sits inside a giant meteor crater called the Nördlinger Ries, created by an asteroid impact around 15 million years ago. Because of this, some buildings in the city were even built using stone containing tiny diamonds from the impact.

Historically, Nördlingen became an important medieval trading town and is one of the few German cities whose city wall is still fully walkable today. The old town has towers, narrow streets, and a very preserved medieval appearance.

⚔️ Many anime fans know Nördlingen because people believe it helped inspire the city design in Attack on Titan. The circular walls, dense houses, gates, and giant defensive towers look very similar to the walled cities in the anime.

Although the creators never officially confirmed it as the single inspiration, the resemblance is strong enough that many fans visit Nördlingen specifically because of the Attack on Titan connection.

This event marks a big shift in German history 🇩🇪⛏️

This is a large Vladimir Lenin statue that once stood in East Berlin’s Friedrichshain district as a symbol of the connection between East Germany and the Soviet Union

After German reunification in 1990, the monument became controversial because many people saw it as a reminder of dictatorship and communist rule. In 1991, the statue was dismantled and removed, symbolizing Germany moving away from its East German communist past.

Although the event is officially called German reunification, some critics believe it felt more like an absorption of East Germany into West Germany, since West German systems and laws largely remained in place.

One of Germany’s most famous mountain lakes 🚣

Schönau am Königssee is a small alpine town in southeastern Bavaria, near the Austrian border 🇩🇪🏔️ It’s best known as the gateway to Königssee.

Königssee is known for its incredibly clear emerald-green water and dramatic mountain scenery inside the Berchtesgaden National Park. Because the lake is protected, only electric boats and rowing boats are allowed, helping keep the water extremely clean.

One of the biggest attractions is the boat trip to St. Bartholomew's Church, the iconic red-domed church sitting beside the lake ⛪ During the ride, boat operators often play a trumpet to demonstrate the famous echo from the mountains.

People visit the area for hiking, photography, swimming, boat tours, and winter sports. The region is especially popular because it feels peaceful and very “Alpine postcard”-like.

One of the largest railway stations in the world, known for its massive arched ceilings 🚟

Leipzig Hauptbahnhof (Leipzig Main/Central Station) is located at Willy-Brandt-Platz, Leipzig, Germany in the northern part of the city center. At the time the photo was taken, this area was part of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany).

The symbols represent Cold War socialist pride. The central emblem features a hammer and compass (East Germany's national seal), while the "XX" marks the state’s 20th anniversary in 1969. The double "M" logo stands for the Leipzig Trade Fair, a major international event.

The photo captures the station as a showcase for Socialist achievement. Because Leipzig hosted global trade fairs, the government used the station's grand architecture to display massive political banners, aiming to impress both local citizens and foreign visitors.
