VINUNI AND EUROCHAM VIETNAM: BRINGING REAL-WORLD BUSINESS PROBLEMS INTO LEARNING THROUGH CHALLENGE-BASED EDUCATION

Why wait until graduation to tackle real business problems? At VinUniversity, Challenge-Based Education is embedded from the very first semester, replacing the traditional “study first, work later” model.

As AI and technology rapidly reshape not only how we work but also the skills future professionals need, early exposure to real-world challenges and industry becomes increasingly important in preparing students to learn, adapt, and thrive in a changing workplace.

This was a key theme at Future Workforce Planning: Preparing Talents for Global Business, co-organized by VinUniversity, EuroCham Vietnam, and AusCham Vietnam, bringing academia and industry together to discuss how to develop future-ready talent.

The discussion also highlighted several priorities for developing future talent:

🔹M-shaped talent for the AI era: In her keynote, Ms. Pham Thanh Hao, Vice President of the University Council, VinUniversity, introduced four key pillars: Domain Expertise, Judgment & Ethics, AI Literacy, and System & Workflow.

🔹Earlier and deeper industry engagement: Representatives from Bosch Global Software Technologies, B. Braun, AWS, Bayer Pharma, and MyTeam Vietnam shared practical approaches such as industry exposure, technical challenges, mentorship, and project-based internships.

🔹Capabilities for a global workplace: Employers increasingly value digital literacy, learning agility, analytical and commercial thinking, adaptability, communication, and cross-cultural understanding.

For VinUniversity, the goal goes beyond developing job-ready graduates. We aim to nurture AI-enabled, globally minded and future-ready talent who can think big, solve real-world challenges, and continuously learn and adapt.

Theo Quyết định số 1612/QĐ-TTg ngày 20/8/2026 của Thủ tướng Chính phủ, lộ trình phát triển của VinUni được xác định qua các mục tiêu cụ thể sau:

🔹 Đến năm 2030: hướng tới Top 100 đại học hàng đầu châu Á và Top 300 thế giới theo bảng xếp hạng QS; có ít nhất một lĩnh vực vào Top 100 thế giới.
🔹 Đến năm 2035: hướng tới Top 80 châu Á và Top 100 thế giới theo bảng xếp hạng QS; có ít nhất ba lĩnh vực đào tạo thuộc Top 100 thế giới.

Ngay từ khi thành lập, VinUni đã theo đuổi định hướng xây dựng một đại học nghiên cứu có sức cạnh tranh toàn cầu ngay tại Việt Nam. Việc được Chính phủ tin tưởng giao nhiệm vụ là sự ghi nhận quan trọng, đồng thời tiếp thêm động lực để VinUni càng quyết tâm hiện thực hóa mục tiêu đã đặt ra.

PROFESSOR MINH DO JOINS VINUNIVERSITY AS DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND COMPUTER SCIENCE (CECS)

Professor Minh Do has been part of VinUniversity's journey from the very beginning, first as a founding academic advisor, then as Vice Provost (2020-2021), and most recently as Honorary Vice Provost and Director of the VinUni–Illinois Smart Health Center. Now, he takes on a new role as Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

An IEEE Fellow and one of 23 VinUniversity scientists recognized on the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List, Prof. Minh Do has dedicated his career to advancing research in AI, computer vision, and smart health.

His vision is clear: to build a place where faculty can pursue frontier research and where students grow into the scientists, engineers, and innovators Vietnam needs. For him, real success isn't measured by rankings alone, but by the people developed and the impact they create for society.

That vision, where research excellence and human development go hand in hand, is precisely what VinUniversity was built to pursue.

Trong 12 cơ sở giáo dục đại học được Chính phủ định hướng phát triển để dẫn dắt giáo dục đại học Thủ đô, VinUni được giao một trong những lộ trình tham vọng nhất: Top 100 châu Á, Top 300 thế giới vào năm 2030 và Top 100 thế giới vào năm 2035.

VINUNIVERSITY X HANVET - BRIDGING HEALTH SCIENCES RESEARCH AND PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY PRACTICE

On August 15, 2026, VinUniversity's College of Health Sciences and Innovations in Health Sciences signed an MoU with Hanvet Pharmaceutical, one of Vietnam's longest-established pharmaceutical manufacturers with over 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical development and GMP-WHO-certified production.

Under this partnership, both institutions will collaborate across key pillars:
🔹 Joint Research Projects: Launching an initial pilot collaboration within 60 days of signing.
🔹 Industry-driven Education: Student internships, site visits, and firsthand exposure to industrial-scale manufacturing.
🔹 Academic Exchange & Co-supervision: Faculty exchanges, joint supervision of student research, guest lectures, seminars, and co-published scientific findings.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN VIETNAM: A VINUNIVERSITY STUDENT LEADS THE EFFORT TO BRING A HARVARD STUDENT-LED CONFERENCE TO VINUNI, CONNECTING YOUNG LEADERS FROM MORE THAN 30 COUNTRIES

From August 19-23, 2026, the HPAIR Asia Conference 2026 will be held in Vietnam for the first time, co-organized by VinUniversity.

Under the theme “Rising with Resolve,” the conference is expected to bring together more than 300 delegates from over 30 countries and more than 20 global speakers. Over five days, participants will explore issues shaping the future of Asia and the world, spanning economics, geopolitics, leadership and public policy, artificial intelligence, healthcare, green technology, and sustainable development.

HPAIR - The Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations was founded in 1991 and is led by Harvard University students. To date, HPAIR has organized 49 conferences across 34 host countries, connecting more than 40,000 students and young people worldwide.

The program at VinUniversity will feature speaker sessions, panel discussions, executive seminars, the HPAIRx speaking stage, the Impact Challenge, the Delegate Policy Debate, and a multicultural exchange night. Through these activities, young people will have opportunities to share their perspectives, collaborate in a multicultural environment, and develop solutions to real-world challenges.

Behind this milestone is the sustained effort of the HPAIR Vietnam team, led by Nguyen Bao Hien Lam - a Cohort 3 student at VinUniversity’s College of Business and Management and President of HPAIR Vietnam. From developing the host bid and engaging organizations and partners to preparing for a five-day international conference, Hien Lam and her team have gradually transformed an ambitious idea into reality.

This journey has also received the support of Soosan Vina Motor as the conference’s Main Sponsor, helping create opportunities for young people from Vietnam and around the world to meet, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections in Hanoi.

Hosting the conference at VinUniversity not only brings an international forum closer to young people in Vietnam but also enables students to learn, collaborate, and participate in global conversations right on campus.

VINUNI500 BRINGS 150 SCIENTISTS TO VIETNAM – AND THEIR STORIES ARE JUST BEGINNING

Dr. Huynh Thanh Trung spent three years doing postdoctoral research at EPFL, one of the world's top technical universities. When it was time to decide what came next, he came home to Vietnam to build his AI research career at VinUniversity.

Dr. Kumar Vikrant had just wrapped up a research professorship at Hanyang University in South Korea. He had never lived in Vietnam before. He chose it anyway, drawn by the research environment and the chance to do meaningful work on materials that fight air pollution.

One came home. One arrived for the first time. But both are now part of something bigger.

VinUniversity launched VinUni500 to attract 500 outstanding faculty members and scientists from around the globe, building a campus where research excellence and genuine concentration of talent are measurable realities.

In its first year, VinUni500 brought 150 scientists from 18 countries, over 100 of them full-time. They are publishing in 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠, co-hosting international conferences with Nobel Laureates, and building Vietnam's first AI benchmark toolkit for Vietnamese-language and cultural contexts. Research groups that didn't exist two years ago are now collaborating with teams across 20+ countries.

For young scientists, the VAP program offers up to USD 1,000,000 in start-up funding - real infrastructure to build a research team, not just a title. As one recipient put it: it's a runway. Stories like Dr. Trung's and Dr. Vikrant's used to be rare. Now they're a pattern.

To VinUniversity, an excellent university delivers two things: the rigorous selection of the finest talent, focused on fields where meaningful impact is genuinely achievable, and results that go beyond the campus. Research the world uses. Technologies that enter real industries. Professionals and leaders who go on to tackle Vietnam's defining challenges.

As Prof. Tan Yap Peng, Provost of VinUniversity, put it: "VinUniversity's Vision 2030 is simple: Excellence."

That ambition is also national in scope. Resolution 71 sets the goal for Vietnam by 2030 to "strive to have at least 8 higher education institutions ranked among Asia’s top 200 universities, and at least one higher education institution ranked among the world’s top 100 in selected subjects, according to reputable international university rankings." This direction is being further concretized in Vietnam's draft Higher Education Development Strategy, aiming to establish 3-5 elite universities focused on top-level research, international competitiveness, and talent attraction. VinUniversity is one of only three institutions registered to develop under this elite university model. VinUni500 is what that commitment looks like in practice.

[Research Internship at VinUniversity] - Episode 02 | Crossing continents to build a greener future with Healy Jackson from University of Utah 🌱

Meet Jackson Healy from the University of Utah, who joined the VinUniversity Summer Research Internship to take his passion for renewable energy to the next level.

Working alongside Prof. Matthew Rolley on the NimbusClear project, Jackson helped develop an innovative thermoelectric anti-dew prototype designed to maximize the performance of CPV (Concentrator Photovoltaics) solar energy. Beyond cutting-edge climate tech, Jackson found a community of world-class peers driven by the same goal: protecting our planet.

Jackson shared: “My experience as a research intern here has shown me how hard-working everyone is. They are self-motivated, willing to go above and beyond, and truly committed to their projects.”
