[ZeroWaste x True North International School]

🌱 The ZeroWaste Project was launched this semester to reduce food waste through awareness, tracking, and daily behavior changes. While there is still room to improve, consistent efforts across the community have begun to create measurable impact.

Here is a summary of our Semester 1 data:

📉 Average food waste: 35.1 kg/day
⬇️ Decrease in daily food waste: 17.8% (Week 1 → Week 20)
⚖️ Total food waste in Semester 1: 2,896 kg
📈 Reduction in total food waste: 15.7% (first 10 weeks vs. last 10 weeks)

🚀 We are proud of the progress made so far and are committed to expanding actions and initiatives in Semester 2 to continue reducing food waste. See you soon!

[ZeroWaste x TNIS] International Food Waste Day Celebration

🍽️ In celebration of International Food Waste & Loss Day (September 29, 2025), the ZeroWaste Project launched a school-wide campaign inviting each class to design a poster showcasing their commitment to reducing food waste on campus.

👨‍🌾 This initiative not only promotes environmental sustainability within our classrooms but also strengthens class spirit, creativity, and collective responsibility.

🎨 We are truly inspired by the thoughtful, creative, and impactful posters presented by our students—and deeply appreciate the dedication and teamwork behind every project. Together, we move closer to a greener, more sustainable school community.

📢 Zayed Sustainability Prize 📢

🎉 ZeroWaste Project is proud to be one of 33 finalists out of 7,761 applicants from 173 countries for the Zayed Sustainability Prize, representing True North International School in the Global High School Category for East Asia & Pacific. In January, we will travel to Abu Dhabi to attend the Award Ceremony to find out the winner and participate in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) to connect with sustainability leaders, and explore ways to make an even bigger impact in our community.

[ZeroWaste x TNIS] Garden Progress

🌱After few months, our garden have seen significant progress. Spring onions and water spinach were served during school lunch for multiple occasions.

We can’t wait to see more vegetables served during lunchtime!

🌟 This year AY 24-25, we launched several initiatives—from food drives to house competitions—all aimed at reducing food waste. The food waste reduction continued to be our biggest achievement.

Here’s the result after an academic year:
📉 Average food waste: 30.4 kg/day
🔻 30% decrease in food waste
⚖️ Total food waste: 5,479 kg
✅ 457 kg reduction between two semesters
👤 15.7 kg/person on average

💚 We’re proud of the progress and will continue to support food waste reduction efforts. Let’s keep the momentum going into next year! 🌍

[ZeroWaste x TNIS] Garden Ceremony Recap

🌱Today, we got our hands dirty (in the best way!) planting spring onions and water spinach. ZeroWaste Project in collaboration with Vegan Project has established this garden to grow vegetables, build community, and take one more step toward sustainability.

🧑‍🌾The water spinach and green onions will be served in the school canteen once they are harvested.

Can’t wait to see these greens thrive!

The TNIS campus became even more special with the grand opening of our School Garden – a student-led initiative promoting a greener and more sustainable lifestyle. During the event, teachers, students, and parents came together to cut the ribbon and plant the very first water spinach leaves by hand.

Located just behind the school kitchen, the garden is expected to not only provide fresh ingredients for school lunches but also serve as a vibrant learning space for environmental education. Each class will soon have its own plot to plant, nurture, and compete in fun, eco-friendly gardening activities.

Sân trường TNIS đã trở nên thật đặc biệt sau sự kiện khánh thành Vườn rau học đường – một sáng kiến của các bạn học sinh hướng tới lối sống xanh và bền vững. Tại buổi lễ, các thầy cô, học sinh và phụ huynh đã cùng nhau cắt băng là tận tay trồng những lá rau muống đầu tiên.

Vườn rau được quy hoạch phía sau khu nhà bếp, hứa hẹn không chỉ là nơi cung cấp nguyên liệu sạch cho những bữa trưa tại trường, mà còn là không gian giáo dục sinh động về bảo vệ môi trường. Mỗi lớp học sẽ phấn đấu sớm có một khu vực riêng trong vườn để gieo trồng, chăm sóc và thi đua cùng nhau trong các hoạt động.

[ZeroWaste Project x VietHarvest]

🥰 After the exciting three weeks of our food drive, ZeroWaste Project has collaborated with VietHarvest to deliver all the wonderful food that students, parents, and staff have donated to us. The food has been appreciated by various locations where the disabled, homeless children, and many other individuals who ZeroWaste Project’s members have a chance to visit.

✅ The amount of food received by ZeroWaste Project is significant. This shows the support and awareness of the True North International School community in reducing food waste and tackling food insecurity. The collected food items have enabled ZeroWaste Project and VietHarvest to feed over 150 people from four organizations (P**c Tue Center, Dialysis Village, KymViet Space, and GLC Charity).

💯 Here’s the breakdown of all the food collected for a total of 814 food items that weigh 165 kg:

* 🥛Dairy Product: 284 items (70kg)
* 🍘Dessert/Snack: 210 items (40kg)
* 🌾Grain Product: 241 items (30kg)
* 🧂Cooking Addiments: 38 items (5kg)
* 🥫Canned Meat/Tuna: 43 (20kg)

🙏 Again, thank you everyone for your kindness and generosity in donating food to the ZeroWaste Project and VietHarvest. Your small actions have helped more than 150 people across our community. We see how privileged we are and want every person in the community to be grateful and show gratitude for what we have, especially when many people out there are less fortunate than us. [ZeroWaste Project] FOOD DRIVE - DONATION FOR COMMUNITY AT TNIS 🍏

📢 Join Our ZeroWaste Food Drive!
To help reduce starvation and foster community engagement, ZeroWaste Project proudly introduces one of our newest fundraising campaigns: ZeroWaste Food Drive. Our goal is to collect unused, non-perishable food (canned food, long-shelf-life products, etc.) and donate them to VietHarvest, one of the largest food banks in Vietnam, to support those in need.

Parents, students, and school staff can bring non-perishable food items to the ZeroWaste Table outside TNIS Canteen.
Accepted items: Canned food, processed food, long-shelf-life products, milk, healthy snacks, etc.
Important: The expiration date must be at least April 30, 2025.

[ZeroWaste Project x Brighton College]

📆 Viet Hung, a student at Point Avenue, after seeing the food waste initiative at PA SLC 24’ has been inspired to establish his own food waste campaign at his school, Brighton College.

✅ At Brighton College, posters to promote awareness has been set up outside of classrooms and the hallway to encourage students to put more effort into reducing food waste. We are proud that ZeroWaste Project now appears outside ofthe TNIS community

We hope to have more campaigns like this at Brighton College and in other schools as well!

📆 After a wonderful two weeks at Point Avenue Winter Leader’s Camp 2024. ZeroWaste Project is proud to continue contribute to the tradition of No Food Waste at the camp followed by a successful management project in Point Avenue SLC 24

📉Here is the statistic during the camp:
- 23kg of food waste in total
- 1.43 kg/person in food waste
- 50% decrease in average food waste per day

✅We were able to have the Squad Leader and Cadets participated in the movement as the volunteer, who helped to weigh the daily food waste and put the number into graphs
